WANA (Sep 21) – Iran has called for immediate and decisive international action to halt what it described as widespread Israeli crimes against Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, as the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly approaches.
In a statement, Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned what it described as grave violations against Palestinians, including genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity, and stressed the international community’s responsibility to take concrete measures to stop the killing of Palestinians.
The ministry also strongly condemned remarks by the Israeli prime minister concerning the Al-Aqsa Mosque and what it described as the desecration of the Al-Buraq Wall.
The statement accused Israel of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza and the West Bank, saying such actions had continued over the past three years with military, financial and political support from the United States and some Western countries.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry also highlighted the situation of detained Palestinians, saying more than 10,000 Palestinian women and children are being held in detention and that torture in Israeli prisons has resulted in the deaths of dozens of detainees, as well as amputations and permanent disabilities among hundreds of others. The ministry said an average of at least three Palestinian detainees die from torture every month.
The statement further criticized what Tehran described as Israel’s immunity from international accountability, saying pressure against international court judges, human rights activists and Palestine-related rights investigators should not prevent efforts to pursue those responsible through legal channels.
Iran Criticizes UN Response
Iran’s Foreign Ministry also said Israel’s occupation, violations of international law and military actions in Palestine and other countries in the region over the past decades had undermined the credibility of the United Nations and the international legal system.
Referring to the 81st UN General Assembly session and its focus on “renewing trust” in the organization, the statement called on member states to prioritize support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and efforts to end the occupation.
Iran also called for an immediate halt to what it described as genocide in Gaza, an end to the expansion of settlements and seizure of Palestinian land, the facilitation of humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza, and the prosecution and punishment of those responsible for the crimes.
