Architect and educator Farshid Moussavi has been named the recipient of the 2026 Soane Medal. Awarded annually by Sir John Soane’s Museum in London, the medal is given in recognition of contributions to architectural culture.
Moussavi founded Farshid Moussavi Architecture, which operates from London and Paris, in 2011. The practice’s portfolio includes the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland, La Folie Divine apartments in Montpellier, the Îlot 19 housing development at La Défense–Nanterre, and the Ismaili Center Houston, completed in 2025.
A graduate of the Harvard Graduate School of Design, where she received her MArch in 1991, Moussavi currently serves as Professor in Practice of Architecture at the school. Moussavi’s research and teaching have explored subjects including housing, architectural production, and the relationship between design and construction.
In 2024, Moussavi curated “Architecture as an Instruction-Based Art” at the GSD’s Druker Design Gallery, examining the role of construction coordination drawings in translating architectural ideas into built form. Moussavi’s publications include four books, most recently Architecture and Micropolitics, published by Park Books in 2022.
Moussavi will receive the medal and deliver the annual Soane Medal Lecture at the Royal Academy in London on November 24. Moussavi also joins previous laureates including Madelon Vriesendorp, Hanif Kara, Anne Lacaton and Jean-Philippe Vassal, Peter Barber, and Marina Tabassum.
