Mike Ashley doesn’t take being told no lightly. The British billionaire behind the Frasers retailing empire owns almost a quarter of Australian footwear business Accent, and has been busy all year trying to take it private.
So far, no luck. Once friends and partners, Frasers and Accent have become increasingly hostile toward one another, culminating in a public attack on the ASX-listed retailer behind The Athlete’s Foot and Platypus in August, with demands for chairman Lawrence Myer to show himself the door.
