Chris Pratt has been extremely busy this year with his work filming the new season of The Terminal List and starring in its first offshoot, Dark Wolf, but now his next project just got an exciting first look. Pratt has been tapped to star alongside Rebecca Ferguson (Silo) and Annabelle Wallis (Malignant) in Mercy, the upcoming sci-fi detective thriller that’s due in theaters on January 23. Amazon MGM officially released the first trailer Mercy, which was first announced at the start of 2024. Now, nearly two years later, its official debut is closer than ever.
Plot details about Mercy are being kept under wraps, but the film will reportedly follow a veteran detective who is accused of a heinous crime and then forced to prove his innocence. Marco van Belle wrote the script for Mercy, and Timur Bekmambetov stepped behind the camera to direct the film. Belle has only written one script in his career, which came 10 years ago on Arthur & Merlin. Betkmambetov hasn’t directed anything since 2021, when he helmed V2: Escape From Hell, but he recently served as a producer on the critically maligned War of the Worlds movie. The creative team may not inspire a ton of excitement, but the cast certainly does.
Mercy will have plenty of competition during the month of January next year when it hits theaters. Coming just a few weeks before it on January 9 is Greenland: Migration, the Gerard Butler-led disaster sequel. Only one week after Mercy, the sci-fi thriller will also have to contend with Jason Statham’s newest film. The action legend will headline Shelter, which will debut in theaters courtesy of Black Bear on January 30.
Chris Pratt Is One of Hollywood’s Busiest Stars
Later this year, Pratt will be seen in the action/adventure family comedy, Way of the Warrior Kid. The film follows a former Navy SEAL who helps his nephew, who’s being bullied at school. Way of the Warrior Kid is coming to theaters this Christmas. Pratt will also reprise his role as Mario in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which is coming to theaters next year on April 3. He’s even in line to voice Garfield in a sequel to The Garfield Movie, but it’s unclear at the time when the film will be released.
