The iPhone Duo sold out almost immediately after going on sale on Friday, with a second wave of shipments only expected to begin on January 22, the report said, citing industry insiders.

To this end, Apple has asked its suppliers to accelerate production and increase orders by 30% to meet strong demand, the Economic Daily reported.

The initial stock of the iPhone Duo was insufficient to meet demand, the Economic Daily said. Initial estimates for iPhone Duo shipments this year were about 6 million units. But shipment volume has now increased to between 8 million and 10 million units, with shipments expected to reach 33 million units by 2027.

The Duo– which is Apple’s first foldable phone– is assembled by Foxconn, while the core processor is made by TSMC, the Economic Daily reported.

The model was launched globally on Friday to strong demand but limited supplies, with launch sales confined mostly to pre-orders.

The Duo is priced well above comparable offerings from Apple rivals Samsung and Google.
