Carson Tahoe Health announced Tuesday morning an agreement with UnitedHealthcare.

The agreement restores in-network access to Carson Tahoe Health physicians, clinics, and hospital services for eligible UnitedHealthcare commercial and Medicare Advantage plan members, effective Nov. 1, CTH said.

“We know how important it is for our patients and their families to have access to local healthcare services from providers they know and trust,” said Michelle Joy, president and CEO of Carson Tahoe Health in a statement. “We’ve heard firsthand how the loss of in-network access has affected individuals and families across Northern Nevada. We’re pleased to have reached an agreement that restores that access and gives our community more choices when it comes to getting the care they need.”

The agreement expands healthcare access and choice for Northern Nevada residents, including individuals and families covered through employer-sponsored insurance and Medicare Advantage beneficiaries.

In August 2024, Joy announced CTH would not renew a contract with United in spring of 2025, making CTH an out of network provider. Last November, CTH reached an agreement with United Medical Resources, the state’s health insurance provider.

“As an independent, not-for-profit health system, our decisions are guided by what’s best for the communities we serve,” Joy said. “For more than 75 years, we’ve been caring for our friends, families, and neighbors, and that commitment remains at the heart of everything we do. This agreement is another example of our continued efforts to keep quality healthcare accessible and close to home.”

MEDICARE BENEFICIARIES

The announcement comes at an important time for Medicare beneficiaries. The annual Medicare Open Enrollment Period is underway through Dec. 7. With eligible UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plans once again including CTH as an in-network provider, beneficiaries have additional healthcare options to consider as they evaluate their coverage for the coming year.

WHAT PATIENTS NEED TO KNOW

The new agreement takes effect Nov. 1 for eligible UnitedHealthcare commercial and Medicare Advantage plans.

Patients are encouraged to confirm their specific plan benefits and network participation, as coverage may vary by plan.
