AV Nackawic’s dissolving pulp mill in New Brunswick, Canada.
New Brunswick’s government submitted a bid for privately owned timberlands associated with AV Nackawic’s dissolving pulp mill. The offer is intended to preserve wood-fibre access for future industrial activity and does not include the mill.
Natural Resources Minister John Herron said the province also engaged AFRY to assess options for the facility, including prospective buyers. The bid’s value remains confidential.
Land sale and mill review are separate
LandVest is marketing Project Riverwood, a portfolio of 106,574 acres, approximately 43,130 hectares, principally in York and Carleton counties. Sealed bids are due on 17 December 2026.
The precise area covered by the provincial offer has not been clarified. A reported 17,800-hectare bid should not be equated with the full marketed portfolio.
Mill production is scheduled to stop on 4 November. The facility employs approximately 350 people and has annual dissolving-pulp capacity of around 190,000 tonnes. Neither the timberland bid nor AFRY’s review constitutes an agreement to restart production.
