Although Victoria continues to get awards and recognition from tourists for its attractions, a new list has come out showing locals have the highest work-related stress in Canada.
Compare the Market analyzed search results from major cities in Canada, and Victoria came out in first place as the most anxious.
The analysis found that there are roughly 1,043 per 100,000 people in Victoria searching for terms like “how to deal with anxiety.”
However, where Victoria truly topped the charts was in work-related stress, which measured searches for terms like “work stress” and “work burnout.” On this metric, Victoria scored 91.37 out of 100.
Cities were scored based on the volume of searches compared to population, which was highest in Victoria.
“Our study highlights the widespread nature of anxiety, showing that both large and smaller cities are deeply affected by work-related stress and the pressures of urban life,” said Steven Spicer, executive general manager of health, life and energy at Compare the Market.
“These findings serve as a reminder that mental health is a critical issue, and cities across the globe must invest in more robust mental health resources to support their residents.”
London, Ontario came in second place, with a score of 86.62, but had a higher number of general anxiety searches at 1,481 out of 100,000 people.
Victoria is the only B.C. city to have made Compare the Market’s list.
In the list comparing U.S. and Canadian cities, Victoria came in second place, behind Atlanta, Georgia, which scored 100 out of 100.
