Dexter: Resurrection follows the titular killer to New York City, where he reunites with his son and meets a secret society of serial killers.A second season was officially announced on Oct. 8, 2025.Season 1 ended with Dexter sailing off on a yacht with a lengthy kill list.

Dexter can’t stop, won’t stop.

Michael C. Hall led eight seasons of Showtime’s Dexter, a gory thriller about a serial killer with a code. In 2021, he returned for both a sequel, Dexter: New Blood, and a prequel, Dexter: Original Sin, which he narrated. But it’s Dexter: Resurrection, Showtime’s latest stab at keeping the franchise alive, that seems to really have fans’ blood pumping.

Released via Paramount+ Premium in the summer of 2025, the series begins with Dexter recovering in a hospital. Lest we forget, he asked his son, Harrison (Jack Alcott), to shoot him at the end of New Blood.

“I died so you can live,” the character said at the time.

Well, he didn’t die, and Dexter: Resurrection sends him to New York City, where he reunites with Harrison, dodges former colleague Angel Batista (David Zayas), and links up with billionaire Leon Prater (Peter Dinklage), who hosts dinner parties for famed killers like himself.

In her review, Entertainment Weekly’s Kristen Baldwin called Dexter: Resurrection a “mildly pleasant surprise,” criticizing the dialogue and “flimsy characterizations” while celebrating the gallery of killers, played by the likes of Neil Patrick Harris, Eric Stonestreet, David Dastmalchian, and Krysten Ritter.

So, will there be a season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection? And who’s left on the killer’s hit list? Here’s everything we know so far.

Yes, Paramount+ announced a second season of Dexter: Resurrection on Oct. 8, 2025, and shared a video of Hall thanking fans for supporting the spinoff.

“We’ve been greenlit for another season. There’s more to come,” he says in the clip. “The writers’ room is assembling now, and details will be forthcoming. But I wanted to be the first to let you know that the story continues.”

We can’t say the same for Dexter: Original Sin, which was initially greenlit for a second season before getting officially axed.

How did Dexter: Resurrection season 1 end?

The Dexter: Resurrection season 1 finale offered its titular killer about as happy an ending as you can expect — for Dexter, at least.

Zayas’ Angel, who’s been with the franchise since day one, unfortunately bit the dust, having been shot by Dinklage’s Prater in the penultimate episode. After learning of Dexter’s real identity (and the fact that he killed most of his murderous pals), Prater locked Dexter in his vault along with Angel’s corpse. He made a big mistake, though, by not searching Angel’s pockets first.

In the finale, Dexter uses Angel’s phone to call Harrison, who promptly sneaks into Prater’s mansion disguised as a waiter for that evening’s police gala. After escaping, Dexter teams up with Harrison to take out Prater, slaughtering and exposing him as Angel’s killer.

Ultimately, Dexter makes his getaway on Prater’s luxury yacht — quite a nice step up from his former boat, the Slice of Life (if you know, you know). Now enjoying a newly repaired relationship with his son, Dexter has a very meta epiphany that he’s “exactly” who he needs to be and “exactly who you want me to be.”

Dexter dumps Prater’s body into New York Harbor and absconds with the billionaire’s yacht. In his possession are Prater’s myriad files on the world’s most vicious killers, giving our antihero enough targets to fill up no shortage of follow-up seasons.

What will Dexter: Resurrection season 2 be about?

As of this writing, there’s no official plot synopsis for Dexter: Resurrection season 2, though the season 1 finale leaves several threads dangling.

One is Charley, the bodyguard and enforcer hired by Prater and played by Uma Thurman. At season 1’s end, Dexter showed her compromising photos that implicated her (and only her) in the crimes Prater ordered her to commit. When we last saw her, she quit and left New York City with her sick mother. It would make sense for her and Dexter to reunite down the line.

We also see Dexter nab the file of Al Walker, the Midwestern “Rapunzel” killer played by Stonestreet. He’s the only member of Prater’s inner circle of serial killers still kicking, and he could very well be the first on Dexter’s kill list.

It also wouldn’t be surprising if season 2 unfolded in an entirely new setting. Moving the action to New York City in Resurrection season 1 helped freshen up the franchise, and Dexter’s departure on a boat at season’s end opens up a whole slew of possibilities. Dexter in Brazil? France? South Africa? We’d watch it.

Who’s in the Dexter: Resurrection season 2 cast?

Jack Alcott as Harrison Morgan and Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan on ‘Dexter: Resurrection’.

Dexter: Resurrection was an honest-to-goodness bloodbath, but there are two survivors we’ll likely see again, especially since they represent Dexter’s more tender side.

Alcott’s Harrison is one. The other is Blessing, the rideshare driver played by Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, whom Dexter befriends early in season 1. While not confirmed as of yet, we’d be surprised if they didn’t return.

Since season 1 burned brightest when pitting Dexter against a stable of vicious killers, the show may do the same in season 2. Bringing in a new batch of charismatic performers to play a bunch of sickos? Sounds like money in the bank.
