House of the Dragon Season 3 wraps up filming
After months of production, House of the Dragon Season 3 has officially wrapped filming. After more than six months of production at England’s Leavesden Studios, the hit Game of Thrones prequel has completed its shoot. With filming now complete, the series is moving into post-production for an expected summer 2026 release (via Redanian Intelligence).
HBO has indicated that the next chapter of the Game of Thrones prequel will arrive in the summer of 2026. Network head Casey Bloys previously mentioned that the show would premiere shortly after the Emmy eligibility cutoff in May, suggesting a June debut.
Unlike previous seasons that included international locations, the third installment was filmed entirely within the United Kingdom. With filming now complete, attention shifts to the post-production phase.
This season will reportedly have eight episodes and is expected to feature several important moments from George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, including the Battle of the Gullet. Returning stars Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, and Olivia Cooke will once again lead the ensemble. They will be joined by new additions such as Tom Cullen, Joplin Sibtain, Barry Sloane, Adam Brown, and Annie Shapero.
Created by Ryan Condal in collaboration with Martin, House of the Dragon continues to explore the rise and fall of House Targaryen. The upcoming season will serve as the penultimate chapter of the Game of Thrones prequel saga. Meanwhile, HBO has confirmed that House of the Dragon will conclude with its fourth and final season.
