GEORGETOWN, Texas — The city of Georgetown is letting an internet provider expand.
At a meeting on Tuesday, the city approved an agreement with GFiber, previously known as Google Fiber.
City leaders say this will give residents more choices when it comes to reliable internet.
An official with GFiber told the city council the provider hopes to be able to cover the entire city.
“Generally we would likely be starting in the southeast portion of the city, but very, very quickly, as quickly as we can and not to overburden your team, uh, be building all over this great city, uh, as soon as possible,” said John-Michael Cortez with GFiber Government and Community Affairs.
GFiber expects to start construction in 2026. The city said services will become available as portions of the network are completed.
“Georgetown continues to attract innovative companies that share our commitment to quality and service,” Georgetown Mayor Josh Schroeder said. “GFiber’s investment strengthens our city’s digital infrastructure and gives residents more choice and reliability – key ingredients for a thriving community and economy.”
Georgetown residents can sign up for availability updates at gfiber.com.
