A total of 222 Indian athletes – 119 women and 103 men – are competing for medals across 21 sports at the ongoing Asian Youth Games 2025 in Manama, Bahrain.

The continental event – returning after a 12-year gap since the 2013 edition held in Nanjing, the People’s Republic of China – is the third edition of the Asian Youth Games and is scheduled from October 22 to 31. However, some events got underway on October 19.

Athletics features the largest Indian contingent with 31 athletes, followed by kabaddi (28), handball (16) and boxing (14). Ten Indian athletes each will also be in action in taekwondo, wrestling and weightlifting.

India won 11 medals – five gold, three silver and three bronze – at the inaugural Asian Youth Games held in Singapore in 2009.

The previous edition in Nanjing saw Indian athletes compete under the Olympic flag, and bag 14 medals – three gold, four silver and seven bronze.

At Manama 2025, Khushi, 15, won India’s first medal after clinching a bronze in the women’s 70kg kurash event. Kanishka Bidhuri and Arvind also won medals in kurash for India.

India have won three medals – one silver and two bronze – at the third Asian Youth Games 2025 so far.
