Automatically contribute a portion of your paycheck to a savings<\/a> or investment account every month and spend what is left over, instead of the other way around.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat simple switch will change how you feel in the next 12 months,\u201d Shetty said.<\/p>\n

Track Your Spending To Manage Your Money Better<\/p>\n

Once you\u2019ve prioritized saving, the next step is understanding where your money goes<\/a>. Shetty shared a quote from Peter Drucker, known as the \u201cFather of Modern Management.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDrucker said, \u2018You can\u2019t manage what you don\u2019t measure,’\u201d Shetty said. \u201cSo many of us are unaware of our spending habits, and until we understand them, we won\u2019t be able to improve them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Track your spending on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis so you see exactly where your money is going and look for ways to cut back on unnecessary spending.<\/p>\n

Live Within Your Means To Build Lasting Financial Stability<\/p>\n

Finally, Shetty emphasized the importance of living within your means, no matter your income. He quoted a viral tweet<\/a> from the Canadian politician Norm Kelly: \u201cDon\u2019t go broke trying to look rich. Act your wage.\u201d<\/p>\n

Many people overspend to try to appear successful, but this will only prevent you from achieving real financial success<\/a>. Instead, stick to a budget and avoid taking on debt.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we live within our means and create value in the world,\u201d Shetty said, \u201cour value will continue to grow.\u201d<\/p>\n
