As Bloomberg News noted in a\u00a0report<\/a>\u00a0Wednesday (Oct. 29), shares of the company climbed as much as 3.5% to $208.05 in premarket trading, putting the stock on pace to reach a market valuation of a little more than $5 trillion.<\/p>\n

Nvidia is already the\u00a0largest company in the world<\/a>, passing the $4 trillion mark in July. Two other companies, Microsoft and Apple, also enjoy valuations in\u00a0the $4 trillion range<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cA $5 trillion market cap would\u2019ve been unimaginable a few years ago, especially getting here this quickly,\u201d Keith Lerner, chief investment officer and chief market strategist at Truist Advisory Services, told Bloomberg.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe market is certainly putting a lot of stock into the idea that AI will be transformational and change business models.\u201d<\/p>\n

The report points out the momentum behind the company, with President Donald Trump preparing to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping about Nvidia\u2019s flagship Blackwell artificial intelligence (AI) chip.<\/p>\n

Nvidia has also recently unveiled a new system to connect quantum computers, launched an expanded\u00a0partnership<\/a>\u00a0with Uber, and announced a\u00a0$1 billion investment<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0Nokia<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In other Nvidia news, PYMNTS wrote earlier this month about research by the company that makes the case that businesses might be better served by AI\u00a0small language models<\/a>\u00a0(SLMs). The company argues these models are powerful enough for many real-world tasks, cost less to use and can be deployed at scale without the same infrastructure needs as large language models (LLMs).<\/p>\n

The company does not contend SLMs are flawless. They struggle with tasks that require deep context or broad knowledge, and they are still susceptible to hallucinations or misinterpretations.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut the\u00a0economic framing<\/a>\u00a0is key,\u201d PYMNTS wrote. \u201cIf SLMs can complete 70% to 80% of routine steps cheaply and reliably, and LLMs backstop the rest, the ROI profile for enterprises improves. The hybrid model is not about eliminating error but about routing work to reduce exposure and optimize cost.\u201d<\/p>\n

For executives thinking about their\u00a0AI budgets<\/a>, Nvidia\u2019s research changes the question from which large model to pick to how much of the workflow can be handled smaller, cheaper models without losing quality, that report added.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf Nvidia\u2019s thesis holds, enterprises could evolve toward architectures where SLMs handle most routine work and LLMs act as fallbacks.
