Stop poking him! Jesse Eisenberg<\/a> has signed out of The Social Network<\/a> chat.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The actor, who was nominated for an Oscar for his portrayal of Meta billionaire and big Sweet Baby Ray\u2019s guy<\/a> Mark Zuckerberg<\/a> in Aaron Sorkin<\/a>\u2019s 2010 film, tried his best to dodge a question about his decision not to reprise his role in its forthcoming follow-up while visiting the Today<\/a> show on Thursday. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s been some reporting that you passed on the sequel,\u201d anchor Craig Melvin said. “Why?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Eisenberg played off the question. \u201cYou know, I was in Paris. And I had some tools, and I figured there was a way to make a little more of a statement at the Louvre,\u201d he teased, referencing the Parisian museum\u2019s recent jewel heist<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Melvin laughed. \u201cI see what you did there,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

To which Eisenberg quickly fired back, \u201cYeah, I see what you did there. We both are playing chess.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOkay,\u201d Melvin said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cOkay,\u201d Eisenberg replied.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Insert one very awkward stalemate between the pair here. That is, until Melvin broke the silence by telling Eisenberg, \u201cYour turn.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Now You See Me star appeared gobsmacked by the sudden reversal. “Your turn? My turn?” he said, leaning forward in his seat. \u201cI don\u2019t\u2026 What\u2026 How\u2026 What do you have coming out next month?\u201d<\/p>\n

Melvin laughed again before getting them back on track. “The Social Network!” he exclaimed. “Why would you say no to a sequel of that?\u201d<\/p>\n

For \u201creasons that have nothing to do with how amazing that movie will be, really, truthfully,\u201d Eisenberg replied. \u201cBut when you play a character, you feel at some point that you\u2019ve grown into something else.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked if he felt like he\u2019d outgrown the role, Eisenberg continued, \u201cYeah, something. But it\u2019s a really wonderful movie. I\u2019m friends with Aaron Sorkin, who wrote and is directing this movie, and all of the reasons that I am not in it are completely unrelated to how brilliant it will be.\u201d<\/p>\n

The upcoming film, titled The Social Reckoning<\/a>, will instead see Jeremy Strong<\/a> take over as the newest onscreen iteration of Zuckerberg. While speaking with\u00a0The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>\u00a0at an event earlier this month, Strong stated that Eisenberg’s portrayal of the tech titan has “nothing to do with” his own<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He added, “It’s a great character \u2014 fascinating, complex \u2014 and I’m approaching it with great care and empathy and objectivity. I’ve made two films with Aaron, and third time’s the charm.”<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, Eisenberg explained why he doesn\u2019t want to be “associated” with Zuckerberg moving forward<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI haven\u2019t been following [Zuckerberg\u2019s] life trajectory, partly because I don\u2019t…. When I think of myself as associated with somebody like that, it\u2019s not like I played a great golfer and now people think I\u2019m a great golfer. It\u2019s this guy that\u2019s doing things that are problematic,” Eisenberg said on BBC Radio 4’s\u00a0Today\u00a0program<\/a> in February. “Taking away fact-checking and safety concerns, making people who are already threatened in this world more threatened.”<\/p>\n

He\u2019s not the only actor keeping his distance from the project, either. Andrew Garfield<\/a>, who played Mark\u2019s betrayed bestie, Eduardo Saverin, has also denied any involvement in the future follow-up<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“No, no,” Garfield told\u00a0IndieWire<\/a>. “Eduardo is in Singapore having a good time.”<\/p>\n
