<\/p>\nThis year\u2019s LACMA Art+Film gala on Saturday night proved once again that it is one of Los Angeles\u2019 starriest events of the year.<\/p>\n
Elle Fanning, Kaia Gerber and mom Cindy Crawford, Lorde, Angela Bassett, Cynthia Erivo, Samara Weaving, Benito Skinner, Tessa Thompson, Emma Roberts and Paris Hilton were among the evening\u2019s best dressed.<\/p>\n
The 2025 fundraiser honored \u201cSinners\u201d filmmaker Ryan Coogler and visual artist Mary Corse. The evening concluded with a performance by Doja Cat.<\/p>\n
Coogler, presented with his honor by Bassett, delivered an emotional speech about his friendship with the late social justice activist Michael Latt, who was shot and killed during a home break-in in 2023. Latt was the son of founding director of the Sundance Institute\u2019s Feature Film Program Michelle Satter and producer David Latt. \u201cMichael was changing the world,\u201d Coogler said.<\/p>\n
Coogler also recalled becoming a screenwriter when he was in college. \u201cI never thought of myself as an artist. I was a football player before anything and I kinda got recommended to write screenplays on a whim when I was an undergraduate at USC on a football scholarship,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The \u201cSinners\u201d filmmaker said he initially felt like he was at his \u201cweakest\u201d and \u201clowest\u201d when he arrived in Los Angeles because he missed his community back in his hometown of Oakland, Calif. But now, he said, \u201cThis place became a second home for me. I made memories here. I made friends here.\u201d<\/p>\n
LACMA Art+Film, presented in partnership with Gucci and co-chaired by \u201cOne Battle After Another\u201d star Leonardo DiCaprio and Eva Chow, support the art institution\u2019s initiative to make film more central to the museum\u2019s curatorial programming, while also funding its broader mission. This includes exhibitions, acquisitions and educational programming, in addition to screenings that explore the intersection of art and film.<\/p>\n
