\n\tDiscovered during the 2022 field season, \u201cSpike\u201d is a sub-adult dino that roamed the Earth approximately 68 million years ago. He measures just over six feet tall (199.5 cm) and comprises approximately 100 pristine bones, making him one of the most complete Caenagnathid specimens ever discovered. He also displays morphological features that are distinct from those of previously known Caenagnathids, the auction<\/a> house says. As such, Spike is expected to fetch between \u00a33 million and \u00a35 million (about $3.9 million and $6.5 million at current exchange rates) at the upcoming auction.\u00a0<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\tA rare marking on Spike\u2019s wrist suggests Caenagnathids were heavily feathered.<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tChristie\u2019s<\/p>\n \n\tCaenagnathids may be less well known than, say, Tyrannosaurus rexes, but they are no less impressive. It has recently been determined that this family of dinosaurs was heavily feathered\u2014a rare marking on Spike\u2019s wrist might be further evidence of this, Christie\u2019s says. Since the first Caenagnathid was published in 1940, only a handful of complete specimens have been discovered. Stegosaurus \u201cApex\u201d<\/a> hammered down for a record $44.6 million at Sotheby\u2019s in July 2024, becoming the most expensive dinosaur skeleton sold at auction. In addition, Tyrannosaurus rex \u201cSue\u201d <\/a>achieved $8.4 million at Sotheby\u2019s in 1997, while fellow T.rex Stan <\/a>realized a record $31.8 million at Christie\u2019s in 2020.
