(Image credit: NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center)<\/p>\n<p id=\"9326f339-2333-448a-a382-a2b671543fdc\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">The Nov. 9 eruption, an X1.7 flare that <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.spaceweatherlive.com\/en\/solar-activity\/solar-flares.html\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.spaceweatherlive.com\/en\/solar-activity\/solar-flares.html\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">peaked around 2:30 a.m<\/a>. EST (0730 GMT) produced a strong (R3) radio blackout and an Earth-directed <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/coronal-mass-ejections-cme\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/coronal-mass-ejections-cme\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CME<\/a> expected to impact around Nov. 11-12. The CME is following close behind an earlier eruption from Nov. 7, which may graze Earth today (Nov. 10).<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"9326f339-2333-448a-a382-a2b671543fdc-1\">Together, the events have prompted NOAA to issue a G1 (minor) geomagnetic <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.swpc.noaa.gov\/news\/g1-watch-valid-10-nov-and-g2-watch-valid-11-12-nov\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.swpc.noaa.gov\/news\/g1-watch-valid-10-nov-and-g2-watch-valid-11-12-nov\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">storm watch<\/a> for Nov. 10 and a G2 (moderate) watch for Nov. 11-12. These levels can impact satellites and power systems and can help boost <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/15139-northern-lights-auroras-earth-facts-sdcmp.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/15139-northern-lights-auroras-earth-facts-sdcmp.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">auroras<\/a> across northern U.S. states from New York to Idaho, as well as parts of northern Europe.<\/p>\n<p>You may like<\/p>\n<p id=\"68d03562-24a0-419e-99f1-cd9c4dd17d67\">But that&#8217;s not all! Space weather forecasters and aurora chasers are keeping a close watch on the aftermath of a second X-flare from the same region just this morning (Nov. 10), which unleashed another CME toward Earth. The flare measured as an X1.2 eruption, peaking around 4:20 a.m. EST (0920 GMT).<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">HUGE symmetrical full-halo CME from the X1.2 flare in AR 4274! Chances for major geomagnetic storms this week are rising rapidly! https:\/\/t.co\/VPQNvzoTeU pic.twitter.com\/aYsGk5Wpn2<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cantworkitout\/status\/1987843554002309325\" data-url=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cantworkitout\/status\/1987843554002309325\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">November 10, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-f1b6ce47-10a4-4f6a-8c78-4ce3c6908916\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/>What&#8217;s next?<\/p>\n<p id=\"8afb6aa9-6d63-49f5-936c-2cd40ba1bdc7\">At least two CMEs are en route to Earth, one from Nov. 7, which could brush past today, and another from the Nov. 9 X1.7 flare, expected to arrive around Nov. 11-12.<\/p>\n<p>A third, potentially larger CME linked to this morning&#8217;s Nov. 10 X1.2 flare is now under analysis. Space weather forecasters are reviewing new coronograph imagery from NASA&#8217;s <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/18501-soho-solar-heliospheric-observatory.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/18501-soho-solar-heliospheric-observatory.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SOHO<\/a> and <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/43274-stereo-mission.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/43274-stereo-mission.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">STEREO<\/a> spacecraft to determine its speed and trajectory.
