Recent polling on the economy shows flashing red lights for President Donald Trump, CNN\u2019s chief data analyst warned Monday.<\/p>\n

Harry Enten said the latest surveys on consumer sentiment and Trump\u2019s economic policies are spelling trouble for the administration against a backdrop of the longest government shutdown in U.S. history.<\/p>\n

A University of Michigan poll<\/a> found that consumer confidence in the current conditions dropped to 52.3 percent in November, the lowest since 1951. Overall consumer sentiment also fell to a three-year low of 50.3 percent, plummeting 30 percent from the same period last year.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are dealing with the worst-ever view of current conditions dating all the way back since 1951. This is record-breaking in the way you don\u2019t want to be breaking records,\u201d Enten said.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, a CNN\/SSRS survey<\/a> found that 61 percent of Americans believe Trump\u2019s policies have worsened economic conditions in the country. A CBS News<\/a> poll similarly revealed that 51 percent of Americans think Trump\u2019s policies are making them financially worse off.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is double trouble for the President of the United States,\u201d Enten warned. \u201cThat is \u2018Ay caramba, no good.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

The numbers don\u2019t look any better when the polling focused on independent voters. Separate surveys by ABC News\/The Washington Post and Marquette Law School found that nearly 80 percent of pure independent voters disapprove of Trump\u2019s handling of the economy.<\/p>\n

Enten said Trump\u2019s net approval rating on the economy among independent voters averaged out to -58 points.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Oy vey,\u2019 as my mother used to say,\u201d he said. \u201cThis is the type of thing that is political nightmare fuel.\u201d<\/p>\n

The data guru said it was no wonder that Democrats swept high-profile races during the first election day under Trump 2.0. Democratic candidates triumphed in the gubernatorial races in New Jersey and Virginia, as well as the closely watched New York City mayoral election last week.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf these numbers hold a year from now, the Republicans can wave \u2018adios, amigos,\u2019 \u2018goodbye\u2019 to their House majority, and they may very well be bidding \u2018adios, amigos,\u2019 \u2018goodbye\u2019 to their Senate Majority as well,\u201d Enten said.<\/p>\n
