Another actress has weighed in on intimacy coordinators<\/a>, except this time, she is \u2026 sort of in favor. During Tuesday\u2019s episode of the Louis Theroux Podcast<\/a>, the show\u2019s host asked Florence Pugh<\/a> how she felt about the work of intimacy coordinators in Hollywood, and Pugh explained that for her, it\u2019s been a mixed bag. \u201cI did a lot of my sex scenes before that was even a job,\u201d she said. \u201cI am quite confident, quite happy in my skin, and I\u2019ve always been able to make sure that I\u2019m heard.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThat being said, there are plenty of things I remember that were completely inappropriate \u2014 to be asked to do that, to be directed in that way,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n While at first she didn\u2019t necessarily see the need for intimacy coordinators on set, the 29-year-old said she\u2019s coming around. Pugh said at first she had a \u201cshit\u201d experience where the coordinator \u201cmade it so weird and so awkward and really wasn\u2019t helpful and kind of was just like wanting to be a part of the set.\u201d But as of late, she\u2019s had \u201cfantastic\u201d experiences.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s a job that\u2019s still figuring itself out, but I will say that I\u2019ve been able to understand better meaning now through working with great ones in sex scenes,\u201d she said. \u201cFinding the story of what it is, what kind of sex it is, how do you touch each other, how long have you been having sex for \u2026 All of these things really matter when you are trying to build a relationship that\u2019s been going for ten years. I\u2019d never thought of it like that before, because sex scenes are so awkward for everybody on set.\u201d<\/p>\n Actresses like Emma Stone<\/a> and Michaela Coel<\/a> have hailed intimacy coordinators as crucial to ensure safety and consent on set. But, while crotchety old male actors have spent years\u00a0complaining<\/a> that they kill the vibe, a handful of women have recently \u2014 and, with a little more nuance \u2014 also questioned their value. Last year, Mikey Madison generated a wave of discourse when she shared that she\u2019d declined<\/a> to work with a coordinator on the Oscar-winning Anora, explaining that she and co-star Mark Eydelshteyn \u201cdecided it would be best to just keep it small.\u201d Earlier this year, Gwyneth Paltrow told Vanity Fair<\/a> that working with a coordinator on her sex scenes with Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet in Marty Supreme made her feel \u201cas an artist, very stifled.\u201d And just last week, Jennifer Lawrence<\/a> told the Las Culturistas<\/a> hosts that she opted out of an intimacy coordinator for her sex scenes in Die My Love because her co-star Robert Pattinson was \u201cnot pervy.\u201d<\/p>\n Pugh, at least, acknowledged that the profession has clear benefits for working actors.
