The Memphis Art Museum<\/a> has announced plans to open in December 2026 in a new 122,000-square-foot\u00a0 center designed by Herzog & de Meuron<\/a>. Local firm archimania<\/a> is the architect of record, while landscape architecture is by OLIN<\/a>. The visual identity of the scheme has been led by Pentagram<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The scheme is expected to expand the museum\u2019s<\/a> exhibition space by 50 percent and introduce new public areas overlooking the Mississippi River. Located on the river bluff, the design features a transparent facade, a 10,000-square-foot street-level courtyard, and a 50,000-square-foot rooftop sculpture garden.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The design of the scheme includes the use of laminated timber<\/a> to emphasize natural tones drawn from the river\u2019s clay banks, with wood detailing to honor Memphis\u2019s industrial heritage. Inside, the museum will contain expanded classrooms, galleries, and community spaces.\u00a0<\/p>\n
