Gwyneth Paltrow spoke frankly on Tuesday about her mental health struggles after living a \u201cvery intense life in the public eye for a really, really long time.\u201d <\/p>\n

During Tuesday\u2019s episode of \u201cthe goop podcast<\/a>,\u201d the veteran actor opened up about feeling like she\u2019s in her \u201chormonal phase of life\u201d right now at 53 years old. <\/p>\n

\u201cI have a lot of anxiety for the very first time in my life,\u201d Paltrow told moderator Zanna Roberts Rassi. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s an estrogen dominance thing. It makes you really anxious,\u201d the \u201cMarty Supreme\u201d star continued. \u201cSo part of it is physiological, part of it is psychological, part of it\u2019s emotional and part of it\u2019s public life.\u201d <\/p>\n

Paltrow, who is the daughter of parents in showbiz \u2014 actor Blythe Danner and director Bruce Paltrow \u2014 attributed her newfound anxiety to being in the public eye for decades. She began acting at the age of 17. <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd so I think whenever we\u2019re at the mercy of people\u2019s opinions and all the energy behind the opinions \u2014 I\u2019m very sensitive, as most of us are \u2014 so I feel that and it kind of frays my nervous system,\u201d Paltrow noted.<\/p>\n

The goop founder went on to say that \u201cthe past couple of years [have] hit me so hard,\u201d before detailing that she\u2019s been dealing with intrusive thoughts in addition to her anxiety. <\/p>\n

\u201cBut I know there\u2019s something wrong because my cortisol [stress hormone] … like I\u2019ll get in bed exhausted and my heart will start to race,\u201d Paltrow added. \u201cAnd then I\u2019ll have intrusive thoughts, which I\u2019ve never had in my life, ever … My sleep is still pretty OK, but sometimes I wake up first thing in the morning and I\u2019m filled with dread.\u201d <\/p>\n

Paltrow revealed that even a negative work email can feel like \u201ca slap in the face\u201d to her. <\/p>\n

\u201cSo I would really like to rewire myself so that medium or bad news doesn\u2019t feel so terrible,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\"GwynethGwyneth Paltrow has been candid<\/a> about her mental and physical health in the past. <\/p>\n

Noting that \u201cit\u2019s never been who I am\u201d and \u201cthere\u2019s a lot of parts to it,\u201d she added that she \u201cdefinitely\u201d thinks \u201cthere\u2019s a big nervous system component\u201d to her symptoms. <\/p>\n

Elsewhere in the interview, Gwyneth spoke about seeing two therapists, one of whom is a nervous system specialist, for support, in addition to finding calmness in spending time with her husband and kids. <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd then I get a lot of healing from my family, from my kids and my husband,\u201d she said. \u201cIf I can be with everyone, especially if all four kids \u2014 my stepkids and my kids \u2014 and my husband and I, if we\u2019re under one roof, my nervous system calms down.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cIron Man\u201d star also gave credit to the \u201camazing friends\u201d and \u201camazing women\u201d in her life for having her back. <\/p>\n

Paltrow tied the knot with director Brad Falchuk in 2018. She shares daughter Apple and son Moses with her ex-husband, Coldplay musician Chris Martin. Paltrow is also a stepmom to Falchuk\u2019s children, Isabella and Brody, whom he shares with his ex-wife, Suzanne Bukinik.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Oscar winner said she\u2019s working on being \u201cmore intentional\u201d in her everyday life. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think I have a bit of ADD and I can really sort of get pulled in lots of directions. I think I would love to try to not do that so much and feel more grounded throughout the day,\u201d she added. <\/p>\n
