Asia-Pacific markets were set to open lower on Friday, tracking losses on Wall Street as technology stocks continued to come under pressure.<\/p>\n
Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225<\/a> index was set for a lower open, with its futures contract in Chicago trading at 50,210 and its counterpart in Osaka at 50,090 against the index’s last close of 51,281.83.<\/p>\n Australia’s S&P\/ASX 200<\/a> lost 1.58%.<\/p>\n Futures for Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index<\/a> pointed to a lower open, trading at 26,701, against the index’s previous close of 27,073.03.<\/p>\n China will release data on retail sales, industrial output, and fixed-asset investment for October today. Fixed-asset investment, which includes real estate, fell unexpectedly<\/a> by 0.5% in September.<\/p>\n Overnight in the U.S., all three major averages closed lower as investors continued to sell shares of technology companies, especially those in the artificial intelligence trade, amid\u00a0worries about their valuations<\/a>.<\/p>\n The\u00a0Dow Jones Industrial Average<\/a>\u00a0lost 797.60 points, or 1.65%, to settle at 47,457.22, well off the record highs\u00a0set in the previous session<\/a>. The\u00a0S&P 500<\/a>\u00a0shed 1.66% to finish at 6,737.49.<\/p>\n The broad-based index saw notable declines in the information technology and communication services sectors, led by\u00a0Disney<\/a>, which fell nearly 8% on mixed results for its fiscal fourth quarter<\/a>. The\u00a0Nasdaq Composite<\/a>\u00a0pulled back 2.29% to close at 22,870.36.
