Neon has acquired U.S., U.K. and Australian rights to Hirokazu Kore-eda\u2019s \u201cSheep in the Box,\u201d the company announced on Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u201cSheep in the Box\u201d \u2014 which was also written by Kore-eda \u2014 stars Haruka Ayase, who previously appeared in Kore-eda\u2019s drama \u201cOur Little Sister,\u201d and Daigo, who is marking his feature debut in the upcoming drama.<\/p>\n

Neon will release the film theatrically in the U.S. nationwide.<\/p>\n

With filming currently underway, producers include Fuji Television Network, Gaga Corporation, Toho and AOI Pro. Gaga represents international sales together with Goodfellas and negotiated the deal with Neon\u2019s Sarah Colvin.<\/p>\n

The official logline is as follows: \u201cSheep in The Box\u201d is set in the near future, where a couple takes in a state-of-the-art humanoid into their home as their son. The title of the film was inspired by the French children\u2019s novel \u201cThe Little Prince.\u201d<\/p>\n

This deal reunites Neon and\u00a0Kore-eda, one of the most lauded filmmakers in the world, as the company previously distributed\u00a0\u201cBroker,<\/a>\u201d\u00a0which at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival won the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury and Best Actor for Song Kang-Ho. <\/p>\n

Kore-eda\u2019s work also includes the 2018 Palme d\u2019Or winner and Academy Award\u2013nominated film\u00a0\u201cShoplifters,\u201d and\u00a0other acclaimed features which earned awards at Cannes Film Festivals including\u00a0\u201cLike Father, Like Son,\u201d\u00a0which was awarded the Jury Prize,\u00a0\u201cMonster,\u201d\u00a0which won Best Screenplay and Queer Palm, and\u00a0\u201cNobody Knows,\u201d\u00a0in which Y\u00fbya Yagira was awarded Best Actor.\u00a0<\/p>\n
