A lot can happen in a year. In pursuit of the perfect party shoe that fits everyone, New York City-based footwear brand Margaux, founded by Sarah Pierson and Alexa Buckley Roussel, has joined forces with writer and Jacqueline-of-all-trades Aminatou Sow. The trio first crossed paths exactly one year ago\u2013coming full circle at Thursday night\u2019s fete as they toasted to the launch of the Aminatou Sow for Margaux holiday shoe drop.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe met Aminatou at a dinner we hosted in Brooklyn and our connection was instantaneous,\u201d Roussel explained. \u201cShe told us how she wears a size 12, and how hard it is to find cute shoes that fit, and, to our surprise, that she had been wearing Margaux for some time.\u201d The three conspired to put together a collection that honored Margaux\u2019s commitment to comfort and style in inclusive sizing (shoes run up to size 45). City-friendly, the resulting silhouettes are flat, low-heeled, and ultra walkable\u2014saving you cab fare at the end of the night. \u201cAt the end of the day, we’re designing for ourselves, our team, and our customers\u2014we love and live in the product. There’s no greater test, or measure of accountability, than that,\u201d added Pierson.<\/p>\n
The celebration was hosted at the brand-new Belle \u00c9poque-inspired Bar R\u00eave in Brooklyn\u2019s Cobble Hill neighborhood, with guests including Constance Wu, Busy Philipps, Merritt Wever, Hunter Abrams, Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, Willie Norris, and Kamyiis Mclean.<\/p>\n
Caviar-topped potato croquettes and retro helpings of pigs in a blanket made the rounds, while partygoers sipped cocktails worthy of a Parisienne salon. Lush blooms by Carolina Malabet added to the Brooklyn-meets-Parisian feel, while Hope 808’s tunes pulsed through the air. A block of ice elegantly displayed the holiday collection\u2014doubling as a vodka luge too.<\/p>\n
Amongst the crowd, peeks of leopard abounded. \u201cWe bonded with Aminatou over our shared passion for satins and animal print,\u201d continued Roussel. \u201cWe are so proud of how it\u2019s come to life and the stories we\u2019ve been able to tell around it.\u201d<\/p>\n
As the night unfolded, guests took their footwear for a spin on the dancefloor; a real-time test of wearability that passed with flying colors. Taking comfort in stride is more than a design preference for Sow.
