{"id":134146,"date":"2025-11-15T04:55:15","date_gmt":"2025-11-15T04:55:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/134146\/"},"modified":"2025-11-15T04:55:15","modified_gmt":"2025-11-15T04:55:15","slug":"mdwise-laying-off-238-employees-and-closing-indiana-office","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/134146\/","title":{"rendered":"MDwise laying off 238 employees and closing Indiana office"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The company filed a layoff notice with the state after FSSA canceled its Medicaid contract.<\/p>\n<p>INDIANAPOLIS \u2014 Health insurance company MDwise is laying off 238 people and closing its Indianapolis office, according to a notice filed with the state of Indiana.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>MDwise is currently the largest managed health care plan for Hoosiers on Medicaid, with some 300,000 clients.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>MDwise filed a WARN notice, named after the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act of 1988, which requires companies to announce layoffs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Nov. 12, FSSA announced it was<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wthr.com\/article\/news\/local\/mdwise-terminated-indiana-medicaid-programs-indianapolis-money-health-insurance-canceled\/531-abe30965-2c13-4507-a234-cc84552be755\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">\u00a0terminating the managed health care plan MDwise ran for Hoosiers on Medicaid.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The FSSA says it reviewed MDwise&#8217;s performance and ability to meet &#8220;standards for member services, provider support and program accountability&#8221; before making its decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIndiana Medicaid exists to provide dependable, high-quality care for the Hoosiers who rely on it,\u201d said Mitch Roob, secretary of FSSA. \u201cOur review found that, of the four plans, MDwise was both the most expensive and the lowest in quality. Federal rules require us to maintain at least three plans, and this decision allows us to meet those standards while safeguarding members\u2019 access to care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Effective Jan. 1, 2026, members using Indiana Medicaid&#8217;s Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP) and Hoosier Healthwise programs <a href=\"https:\/\/www.in.gov\/medicaid\/members\/member-resources\/managed-care-health-plans\/?j=125169&amp;sfmc_sub=20377297&amp;l=1783_HTML&amp;u=2625235&amp;mid=546006736&amp;jb=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">will need to choose a new health plan<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>MDwise issued the following statement Wednesday:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration\u2019s attack on MDwise should concern every Hoosier, especially those who rely on Medicaid for their health care needs. \u00a0We have operated in good faith at every turn, and the state\u2019s decision to terminate our contract \u2018for convenience\u2019 is unjustified and fails to consider the harm it will cause members, providers, employees and communities.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of working together toward an orderly solution, the state has chosen a rushed path that jeopardizes care for hundreds of thousands of Hoosiers. MDwise presented multiple proposals to ensure a smooth, responsible transition \u2013 all of which have been ignored.<\/p>\n<p>Despite this setback, MDwise is not giving up. We remain committed to finding a responsible path forward that preserves access to care, protects local jobs and honors our 30-year legacy of serving Indiana\u2019s most vulnerable residents.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>MDwise dated its WARN notice for the day after FSSA&#8217;s announcement.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The company filed a layoff notice with the state after FSSA canceled its Medicaid contract.
