“The Fate of Ophelia” climbs again on the Adult Pop Airplay chart, one of the three pop-focused radio rankings published by Billboard every week. Swift’s tune ascends from third to second place, hitting a new all-time high and coming within striking distance of the throne.

Who Keeps Taylor Swift From a New No. 1 Hit?

What keeps Swift from landing another No. 1 on an American tally? “Ordinary,” the breakout smash by newly-named Grammy nominee Alex Warren, which is steady in first place, where it has now lived for months.

What Are the Longest-Running No. 1s on Billboard’s Adult Pop Airplay Chart?

“Ordinary” has now commanded the Adult Pop Airplay chart for 24 weeks, including this latest frame. The tune stands as the second-longest-running ruler ever, coming in behind only “Smooth” by Santana and Rob Thomas. That cut, which took over the planet in the late ’90s, racked up 25 turns at No. 1 on the Adult Pop Airplay list — a feat that “Ordinary” could very easily match in just a few days.

With the twenty-fourth frame at No. 1, “Ordinary” breaks out of a tie. Just a short time ago, it already claimed the record of being the second-longest-running No. 1 ever, but it had to share that title. “Ordinary” passes both “Wherever You Will Go” by The Calling and, in a bit of coincidence, “Cruel Summer” from Taylor Swift. Those two smashes managed to run the show for 23 weeks — a showing that has been passed this tracking period.

If Swift can eventually send “The Fate of Ophelia” to No. 1 — which seems likely, considering it has already risen to No. 2 in just five frames and still has plenty of heat behind it — she will inch closer to an all-time record. Maroon 5 claims the most leaders of all time on the tally with 15 champions.

“The Fate of Ophelia” Holds at All-Time Peak on Radio Charts

As “The Fate of Ophelia” just barely misses out on the highest rung on the Adult Pop Airplay chart, the tune sits in its previously-established peak positions on Billboard’s two other pop radio rosters. The song is a non-mover at No. 4 on the Pop Airplay chart, while it advances to No. 10 — a slot it has soared to in the past — on the Adult Contemporary list.
