The Pretty Reckless<\/a>\u2019\u00a0Taylor Momsen<\/a>\u00a0has\u00a0reflected on her battles with depression, saying she is lucky that she \u201cchose to move forward\u201d.<\/p>\n

The former\u00a0Gossip Girl<\/a> actor and frontwoman of the New York band went through a period of grief and subsequent substance abuse following the untimely deaths of Soundgarden <\/a>frontman Chris Cornell <\/a>in 2017 and her friend and producer Kato Khandwala a year later.<\/p>\n

She opened up about the difficult time she faced in the aftermath of those events in a new interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast, describing Khandwala\u2019s passing as \u201cthe nail in the coffin for me\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a giant one-two punch because they were not that far apart from each other,\u201d she said. \u201cI just\u00a0went\u00a0off the\u00a0rails,\u00a0I\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0handle\u00a0that well. I got very heavy into substance abuse and this cloud of depression that I couldn\u2019t shake.\u201d<\/p>\n

She went on to describe how she was able to navigate a way through her depression. \u201cI had to make a very conscious choice at a point where I was either going to live or I was going to die and I had to either stop everything I was doing and get my life together, or this was going to kill me,\u201d she said. \u201cI luckily chose to move forward but it was that serious\u201d.<\/p>\n

Articulating how she\u00a0ultimately found\u00a0solace in music, she added: \u201cEventually I got to a place where I could start listening to records again. I very calculatedly went, \u2018Where did I fall in love with this? How do I find myself\u00a0again?\u2019\u00a0So\u00a0I started at the very beginning, which was\u00a0The Beatles<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Momsen went on to pour her energy into \u2018Death By Rock And Roll<\/a>\u2019, The Pretty Reckless\u2019 fourth studio album from 2021, which featured a contribution from\u00a0Rage Against The Machine<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0Tom Morello<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In August,\u00a0the band released their first new music since then, in the form of the single \u2018For I Am Death\u2019<\/a>, and more\u00a0new music\u00a0is expected in the coming months.\u00a0They have also been announced on the line-ups for\u00a0Download<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Rock\u00a0For\u00a0People<\/a>\u00a0festivals in\u00a02026.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere,\u00a0Momsen reunited with Jim Carrey this week<\/a>\u00a0for the first time since they starred together in\u00a0How\u00a0The\u00a0Grinch Stole Christmas\u00a0in 2000. They were both on hand at the Rock And\u00a0Roll Hall\u00a0Of\u00a0Fame<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0induct Soundgarden.<\/p>\n
