Alibaba Group Holding<\/a> has begun a revamp of its artificial intelligence<\/a> chatbot in a move to match OpenAI\u2019s ChatGPT, according to app store information and media reports, as some observers see \u201cpanic\u201d in Silicon Valley over the Chinese tech giant\u2019s rapid AI progress.<\/p>\n

The new chatbot app, Qwen, an upgraded and renamed version of the previous app, Tongyi, became available on Android and Apple app stores on Friday.<\/p>\n

Alibaba dubbed the updated app the \u201cmost powerful official AI assistant for its models\u201d and \u201cthe primary entry point for experiencing the latest and most powerful Qwen model\u201d, in app-store descriptions. Alibaba owns the South China Morning Post.<\/p>\n

The company also planned to add agentic-AI features to the app to boost shopping on platforms including the main Taobao<\/a> marketplace, Bloomberg reported.<\/p>\n

Alibaba did not immediately reply to a request for comment.<\/p>\n
