{"id":138931,"date":"2025-11-18T00:56:11","date_gmt":"2025-11-18T00:56:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/138931\/"},"modified":"2025-11-18T00:56:11","modified_gmt":"2025-11-18T00:56:11","slug":"faa-lifts-ban-on-daytime-rocket-launches-after-government-shutdown-ends","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/138931\/","title":{"rendered":"FAA lifts ban on daytime rocket launches after government shutdown ends"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"a0332bc9-788a-423a-8c9b-71353128ebfc\">Commercial launch companies (especially SpaceX) can breathe easy, now that restrictions on when they&#8217;re allowed to lift off have been rescinded.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has ended an <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/launches-spacecraft\/faa-restricts-commercial-rocket-launches-indefinitely-due-to-air-traffic-risks-from-government-shutdown\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/launches-spacecraft\/faa-restricts-commercial-rocket-launches-indefinitely-due-to-air-traffic-risks-from-government-shutdown\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">order designed to help alleviate strain on air traffic<\/a> control operators. The directive \u2014 which went into effect Nov. 10 and was a result of the recent government shutdown \u2014 relegated <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/launches-spacecraft\/us-set-new-record-with-21-commercial-launches-in-june-faa-says\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/launches-spacecraft\/us-set-new-record-with-21-commercial-launches-in-june-faa-says\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">commercial launch traffic<\/a> to nighttime hours in order to avoid airspace closures around spaceports in Florida, California and the Delmarva area.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"a0332bc9-788a-423a-8c9b-71353128ebfc-2\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">Now that the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/nasa-closes-doors-to-15-000-employees-as-us-government-shutdown-begins\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/nasa-closes-doors-to-15-000-employees-as-us-government-shutdown-begins\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">record-long shutdown<\/a> has ended and the U.S. government is open for business once again, the FAA has ended those restrictions.<\/p>\n<p>You may like<\/p>\n<p id=\"58a9413f-9fb7-4403-8e6a-0183bbd81b09\">The order officially ended on Monday (Nov. 17) at 6 a.m. EST (1100 GMT), an <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/newsroom\/us-transportation-secretary-sean-p-duffy-and-faa-administrator-bryan-bedford-announce\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/newsroom\/us-transportation-secretary-sean-p-duffy-and-faa-administrator-bryan-bedford-announce\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">FAA statement<\/a> said, allowing normal operations at the National Airspace System (NAS) to resume.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s decision to rescind the order reflects the steady decline in staffing concerns across the NAS and allows us to return to normal operations,\u201d FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford said in the statement.<\/p>\n<p>The order primarly affected <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/18853-spacex.html\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/18853-spacex.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SpaceX<\/a>, by far the most prolific American launch company. SpaceX has been lofting <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/spacex-starlink-satellites.html\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/spacex-starlink-satellites.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Starlink<\/a> missions to expand its growing wireless internet megaconstellation in <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/low-earth-orbit\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/low-earth-orbit\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">low Earth orbit<\/a> every few days; it has already launched more than 100 Starlink missions this year.<\/p>\n<p>SpaceX wasn&#8217;t totally grounded while the order was in place, though. The company managed to launch four after-hours missions during the week-long restriction phase, including three Starlink missions and the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/launches-spacecraft\/spacex-sentinel-6b-sea-level-monitoring-satellite-launch\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/launches-spacecraft\/spacex-sentinel-6b-sea-level-monitoring-satellite-launch\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sentinel-6B ocean mapping satellite<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"newsletter-form__strapline\">Breaking space news, the latest updates on rocket launches, skywatching events and more!<\/p>\n<p id=\"76f87d10-1ffa-478b-9e9d-32217b9f2a03\">A few other launches were also affected, though not unduly. For example, NASA&#8217;s <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/astronomy\/mars\/next-stop-not-mars-whats-ahead-for-nasas-newly-launched-escapade-red-planet-probes\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/astronomy\/mars\/next-stop-not-mars-whats-ahead-for-nasas-newly-launched-escapade-red-planet-probes\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ESCAPADE Mars mission<\/a>, which lifted off on the second-ever flight of Blue Origin&#8217;s powerful New Glenn rocket, got an exemption from the FAA to launch during daylight hours <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/launches-spacecraft\/blue-origin-lands-huge-new-glenn-rocket-booster-for-1st-time-after-acing-mars-escapade-launch-for-nasa\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/launches-spacecraft\/blue-origin-lands-huge-new-glenn-rocket-booster-for-1st-time-after-acing-mars-escapade-launch-for-nasa\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">on Nov. 13<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SecDuffy\/status\/1990229655287218567\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SecDuffy\/status\/1990229655287218567\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">post on X<\/a>, Transportation Secretary and Acting NASA Administrator Sean Duffy said, &#8220;The FAA has determined that normal flight operations can resume after multiple days of positive staffing with air traffic controllers in our towers.
