Santa Clara Mayor Lisa Gillmor called Sutter\u2019s expansion \u201ca very exciting day for Santa Clara\u201d and a key step in meeting the needs of a growing population.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe addition of the Sutter Health Hospital expands access, it increases capacity and gives our residents more choice, ensuring that more families can receive excellent care right here in Santa Clara, close to home,\u201d Gillmor said.<\/p>\n
The project, which includes the recently opened Sutter East Santa Clara Care Center, will create hubs for specialty care in cancer, women\u2019s health and orthopedics. It will be integrated with the Palo Alto Foundation Medical Group to help with recruitment.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the 29 years I\u2019ve worked here [in Santa Clara County], we haven\u2019t had good enough access for our patients,\u201d said Dr. Kurt VandeVort, CEO of PAFMG. \u201cThis is really a landmark investment.\u201d<\/p>\n
The initiative also includes a significant focus on workforce development. Thomas announced a new, multimillion-dollar partnership with the Santa Clara Unified School District to create \u201cHealth Career Pathways\u201d to help prepare students for careers in health care.<\/p>\n
SCUSD Superintendent Damon Wright said the collaboration would provide students with \u201chands-on, real-world experiences\u201d and training for certification-eligible roles.<\/p>\n
Sutter also plans to expand its Graduate Medical Education programs, aiming to train 1,000 residents and fellows annually by 2030, and is partnering with the West Valley-Mission Community College District on nursing and emergency services programs.<\/p>\n
