{"id":139229,"date":"2025-11-18T05:11:15","date_gmt":"2025-11-18T05:11:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/139229\/"},"modified":"2025-11-18T05:11:15","modified_gmt":"2025-11-18T05:11:15","slug":"astrophotographer-spies-an-ancient-supernova-remnant-shining-in-the-wing-of-a-cosmic-swan-photo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/139229\/","title":{"rendered":"Astrophotographer spies an ancient supernova remnant shining in the wing of a cosmic swan (photo)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"0d23ee2e-5d89-447b-a66d-e79a8a01a6ae\">Dutch astrophotographer Cornelis van Zuilen combined 35 hours of telescopic data to create an incandescent view of the Eastern Veil Nebula shining 2,100 light-years from Earth in the constellation Cygnus.<\/p>\n<p>Van Zuilen&#8217;s <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/nebula-definition-types\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/nebula-definition-types\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">nebula<\/a> image reveals breathtaking detail in these swirling clouds of interstellar dust and gas, which were cast out into space when a star <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/image-detail\/veil-nebula\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/image-detail\/veil-nebula\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">20 times more massive<\/a> than <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/58-the-sun-formation-facts-and-characteristics.html\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/58-the-sun-formation-facts-and-characteristics.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the sun<\/a> ended its life in a dramatic <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/6638-supernova.html\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/6638-supernova.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">supernova<\/a> explosion some 5,000 to 8,000 thousand years ago.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"0d23ee2e-5d89-447b-a66d-e79a8a01a6ae-2\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">The twisting nebula seen in van Zuilen&#8217;s image is just one section of the sprawling 120-light-year-wide <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/asset\/hubble\/cygnus-loop\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/asset\/hubble\/cygnus-loop\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">supernova remnant<\/a>, which can be found close to the bright star Epsilon Cygni in the constellation Cygnus along the glowing band of the Milky Way in November.<\/p>\n<p>You may like<\/p>\n<p id=\"1d48cdda-c64c-4d90-8caa-bf5b9d96d746\">Due to the weather, the image was a difficult one to capture. &#8220;I&#8217;m from the Netherlands and we like to joke here that &#8216;summer is the best day of the year,'&#8221; van Zuilen told <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"http:\/\/space.com\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Space.com<\/a> in an email. &#8220;It rains a lot, so being an amateur astrophotographer is quite a challenging hobby, it requires patience and good timing.
