partners have adopted the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.who.int\/media\/docs\/default-source\/climate-change\/executive_summary_bhap.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bel\u00e9m Health href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/events\/detail\/2025\/11\/13\/default-calendar\/cop30-health-day\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Health<\/a> Day \u2013 a recognition that the climate crisis is also a health crisis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf our planet were a patient, it would be admitted to intensive care,\u201d World Health Organization (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.who.int\/en\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">WHO<\/a>) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/speeches\/item\/who-director-general-s-opening-remarks-at-the-cop30-leaders--summit---7-november-2025\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">warned<\/a> on the eve of the conference.<\/p>\n<p>Extreme heat, floods, droughts and storms are not only environmental threats \u2013they are driving disease outbreaks, food and water insecurity, and the Yemen.<\/p>\n<p>Blueprint for resilience<\/p>\n<p>Developed by the WHO, UN University (UNU) and other UN partners in collaboration with the Brazilian Government, the Action Plan sets out practical steps to integrate health into climate strategies<\/p>\n<p>Strengthening health systems to withstand climate shocksMobilising finance and technology for adaptation andEnsuring communities have a voice, promoting their participation in governance.<\/p>\n<p>Brazil\u2019s Health Minister Alexandre Padilha described the launch as \u201ca crucial moment to demonstrate the strength of the health demonstration at COP30<\/p>\n<p>Solutions hub<\/p>\n<p>Thursday\u2019s high-level sessions in the main conference rooms are dominated by speeches and discussions about climate and health \u2013 but throughout COP30, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/events\/detail\/2025\/11\/10\/default-calendar\/cop30-health-pavilion\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">WHO-led Health Pavilion<\/a> has been the hub for solutions and dialogue.<\/p>\n<p>The topics covered at the pavilion range from AI to waste management, jobs, education and human rights \u2013 all from the perspective of health.<\/p>\n<p>Friday in the pavilion will be dedicated to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/initiatives\/alliance-for-transformative-action-on-climate-and-health\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alliance for Transformative Action on Climate and Health<\/a>, a WHO-led initiative to accelerate the transition to climate-resilient and low carbon health systems.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Food Waste Breakthrough<\/p>\n<p>Also today, the UN Environment Programme (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unep.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">UNEP<\/a>) and its partners launched an initiative to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unep.org\/news-and-stories\/press-release\/food-waste-breakthrough-launches-help-cities-halve-food-waste-cut\" data-entity-type=\"external\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">cut food waste in half by 2030<\/a> and cut up to seven per cent of methane emissions as part of efforts to slow climate change.<\/p>\n<p>UNEP notes that the world wastes more than one billion tonnes of food every year, contributing up to 10 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions and accounting for up to 14 per cent of methane emissions, which is a short-lived climate pollutant that is 84 times more potent at warming the atmosphere than carbon dioxide over 20 years.<\/p>\n<p>Funded by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegef.org\/who-we-are\" data-entity-type=\"external\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Global Environment Facility<\/a>, the UN Environment Programme will launch a $3 million, four-year global project to implement
