Scott Jennings<\/a> on Tuesday declared he\u2019d pick actor Sydney Sweeney<\/a>\u00a0to be his emergency spokesperson \u2015 but he got dragged for the \u201ccringe\u201d way he said it. One critic even dropped a vomiting emoji.<\/p>\n

To close out CNN\u2019s \u201cNewsNight,\u201d host Abby Phillip<\/a> referred to a recent red carpet moment when \u201cWicked: For Good\u201d star Ariana Grande spoke for castmate\u00a0<\/a>Cynthia Erivo, who had lost her voice.<\/p>\n

So Phillip asked her panelists: \u201cIf you lost your voice, who would you want to speak on your behalf?\u201d<\/p>\n

Actors Morgan Freeman and Tracee Ellis Ross were among the answers before Jennings, the news network\u2019s star GOP pundit, got awkward.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe most recent person to conduct an interview in our pop culture to exhibit message discipline and a willingness to manhandle some ridiculous woke reporter was Sydney Sweeney,\u201d Jennings began. \u201cAnd so I\u2019m going to purposely lose my voice and see if I can get Sydney to take care of all my public interviews and speaking engagements. I think this would be a brilliant partnership. And so, if you\u2019d like to do it, the job is yours. I\u2019ve been doing a lot of book sales this week. I could use an extra pair of hands. And so if Sydney wants to come on board, let\u2019s do it right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jennings, whose new Donald Trump book, \u201cA Revolution of Common Sense<\/a>,\u201d came out Tuesday, appeared to be referring to a recent interview in which a reporter tried to lure Sweeney into addressing a jeans ad that stirred controversy and Trump\u2019s delight over a report that she\u2019s a registered Republican. But the \u201cChristy\u201d star\u00a0mostly deflected the queries<\/a>.\u00a0\u201cI think that when I have an issue that I want to speak about, people will hear,\u201d the actor told the reporter.<\/p>\n
