The Statistical Service of Cyprus (CyStat) announced last Friday that total employment in the second quarter of 2025 reached 508,291 persons, marking a 1.8% increase compared with the same period last year. Of the total, 455,484 were employees, while 52,807 were self-employed.<\/p>\n
The highest growth rates were recorded in information and communications technology, wholesale and retail trade including repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, and accommodation and food service activities.<\/p>\n
Actual hours worked during the second quarter were estimated at 236.2 million, representing a 2.2% rise year-on-year. The largest increases in hours worked were also seen in information and communication technology, trade and motor vehicle repair, accommodation and food services.<\/p>\n
In a separate report published the previous week, CyStat had said unemployment in Cyprus stood at 4.3% in the second quarter of 2025, down from 4.6% a year earlier.<\/p>\n
The number of the unemployed reached 22,663, split between 11,019 men and 11,644 women, compared with 23,760 in the April-June period of last year.
