Multi-instrumentalist Jay Weinberg (Suicidal Tendencies, ex-Slipknot, etc.) has unveiled his new self-titled solo project. He first indicated back in December of 2024 that he had been pursuing a solo venture<\/a>. For this initial track from it, \u201cSandstone\u201c, he is joined by Deafheaven vocalist George Clarke.<\/p>\n

A visualizer for that track is available below. Recording sessions haven taken place across multiple sessions in Nashville, TN and Los Angeles, CA. While primarily known as a drummer, Weinberg also plays guitar and has assumed that role in this project.<\/p>\n

Outside of this song debut, Weinberg has also revealed his intentions to release a guest-filled debut EP from this collaboration-driven project in early 2026. He told Wall Of Sound<\/a> that the genesis for this song in particular dates back roughly 6-8 years:<\/p>\n

\u201cOh boy. I\u2019m really excited about it. I\u2019ve been working on this song specifically between six and eight years. Guitar is actually the instrument that I started with. I started playing drums when I was 14, but I started playing guitar when I was nine, and that\u2019s always been my primary writing instrument. Whenever I sit down to write stuff, it\u2019s typically with a guitar first.<\/p>\n

And so I\u2019ve thrown together different versions of what I would want to do with these songs, material I\u2019ve written for a long, long time, and it just kind of started to make sense where I felt comfortable recording all the instruments myself, and then kind of pitching a song here or a song there to friends of mine.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued:<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always wanted to collaborate with mainly vocalists and just create a very low pressure, like, \u2018Hey, here\u2019s a song, why don\u2019t we\u2019, instead of\u2026 \u2018oh, we got to start a side project.\u2019 In the instance of \u2018Sandstone\u2018, I really felt like the music I was creating really lent itself to what my friend George Clarke would be able to do with his voice and his lyrics, and I just kind pitched it to him like, \u2018Hey, let\u2019s do this one song\u2019.<\/p>\n

And he heard that loud and clear, came in and completely schooled it. It was incredible to watch it come to a fully realized form of a song.\u201d<\/p>\n

He went on to add:<\/p>\n
