In fact, it\u2019s going all the way back, because it\u2019s reviving the very first WhatsApp feature. You can think of About (the creators were really not very good at naming things, huh?) as a status update or WhatsApp\u2019s version of an AIM away message. It\u2019s designed to let your contacts know at a glance what you\u2019ve got going on, such as something that\u2019s keeping you busy and might make you slow to respond to messages.<\/p>\n<p class=\"col-body mb-4 leading-7 text-[18px] md:leading-8 break-words min-w-0 charcoal-color\">The About message appears on both your profile and at the top of one-on-one chats. By default, the About message will vanish after 24 hours, but you can set it to vanish earlier or stick around for longer. You can do this by going to the \u201cset about\u201d option in the WhatsApp settings. You also have control over who is able to see your About message \u2014 you can restrict it to your contacts or allow anyone to view it from your profile.<\/p>\n<p class=\"col-body mb-4 leading-7 text-[18px] md:leading-8 break-words min-w-0 charcoal-color\">This is a handy little update that apes the <a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/instagram-makes-its-status-update-feature-more-interactive-160057778.html\" data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\" data-ylk=\"slk:notes feature in sibling apps Instagram;cpos:2;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">notes feature in sibling apps Instagram<\/a> and Facebook.
