Healthscape was founded in Devon with the aim of supporting people\u2019s emotional, psychological and physical wellbeing through the natural environment. This includes guided nature walks, mindfulness meditation sessions and therapeutic outdoor exercises.<\/p>\n
But it is the sea swimming aspect that sparked local sea swimming group the Guernsey Bluetits to invite Healthscape to branch out locally.<\/p>\n
This weekend the local hub officially launched as a registered charity, run by five volunteers.<\/p>\n
New hub leader Marina Burr said the idea came about after some of the UK members came to Guernsey on holiday and ideas started being shared.<\/p>\n
She thought it could really help islanders.<\/p>\n
\u2018I think Guernsey people aren\u2019t aware of how many people struggle with their mental health,\u2019 she said.<\/p>\n
\u2018This is about reaching out to everyone to say we have an opportunity.\u2019<\/p>\n
She has already met local mental health charity Mind and the social prescribing team and hopes to work with both of them.<\/p>\n
A planned launch swim still went ahead at the bathing pools on Saturday morning despite poor weather conditions. The local group were joined by Susan Hamer-Wills and Anita Davies, who are based in Devon and are directors of the UK group. <\/p>\n
There are now nine Healthscape groups across the UK and Mrs Hamer-Wills said it was great to be present for the Guernsey group\u2019s launch.<\/p>\n
