{"id":153349,"date":"2025-11-26T05:41:21","date_gmt":"2025-11-26T05:41:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/153349\/"},"modified":"2025-11-26T05:41:21","modified_gmt":"2025-11-26T05:41:21","slug":"junya-ishigami-creates-kiosk-for-hiroshima-architecture-exhibition-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/153349\/","title":{"rendered":"Junya Ishigami creates kiosk for Hiroshima Architecture Exhibition 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/junya-ishigami\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Junya Ishigami<\/a> is one of three Japanese architects to have designed sculptural, mobile <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/kiosks\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">kiosks<\/a> for the Hiroshima Architecture Exhibition 2025, currently taking place in Fukuyama, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/japan\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Japan<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Architects <a href=\"https:\/\/horibe-aa.jp\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Yasushi Horibe<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hideyukinakayama.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hideyuki Nakayama<\/a> have also each created a kiosk for the architecture and art event, which is being held in Hiroshima Prefecture until 30 November.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2272889 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/clouds-descend-junya-ishigami-hiroshima-architecture-exhibition-yoshikuni-shirai_dezeen_2364_col_4-8.jpeg\" alt=\"Clouds Descend at Hiroshima Architecture Exhibition 2025\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1773\"  \/>Junya Ishigami has created a kiosk for Hiroshima Architecture Exhibition 2025<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jnyi.jp\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ishigami<\/a>&#8216;s contribution, named Clouds Descend, is positioned in front of the south exit of Fukuyama Station.<\/p>\n<p>The sculpture, which functions as a visitor information centre for <a href=\"https:\/\/hiroshima-architecture-exhibition.jp\/en\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hiroshima Architecture Exhibition 2025<\/a>, was designed to emulate a cloud skimming the ground. It is complete with tables and stools that match this cloud-like form.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2272887 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/clouds-descend-junya-ishigami-hiroshima-architecture-exhibition-yoshikuni-shirai_dezeen_2364_col_3-8.jpeg\" alt=\"Steel pavilion in Fukuyama\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1773\"  \/>The steel structure was designed to emulate a cloud<\/p>\n<p>Clouds Descend was constructed from bent steel, chosen by Ishigami after a visit to the factory of shipbuilder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsuneishi.co.jp\/english\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tsuneishi Shipbuilding<\/a>. The company is the sponsor of the kiosk, alongside Japanese waste company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kamtecs.co.jp\/en\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tsuneishi Kamtecs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The architect said he was &#8220;overwhelmed by the sheer power&#8221; of the shipbuilder&#8217;s manufacturing process, which involves bending large steel plates to form ships.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2272892 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/clouds-descend-junya-ishigami-hiroshima-architecture-exhibition-yoshikuni-shirai_dezeen_2364_col_6-8.jpeg\" alt=\"Clouds Descend at Hiroshima Architecture Exhibition 2025\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1773\"  \/>It appears to be &#8220;on the verge of falling over&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This small kiosk is also constructed by bending steel plates into three-dimensional shapes and welding them together\u0336similar to building a ship,&#8221; said Ishigami.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is installed like a ship leaning to one side, balanced by the principle of a self-righting toy, achieved by making the base heavy,&#8221; he continued.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The sight of it installed on the ground, teetering precariously on the verge of falling over, is evocative of clouds gently touching the land.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2272890 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/clouds-descend-junya-ishigami-hiroshima-architecture-exhibition-yoshikuni-shirai_dezeen_2364_col_5-8.jpeg\" alt=\"Cloud-like tables\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1773\"  \/>The tables and stools match the cloud-like form of the pavilion<\/p>\n<p>Horibe\u2019s kiosk, named Tsuboya, is a compact wooden hut set in the Garden of Ignorance at the Shinshoji Zen Museum \u2013 one of the venues for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/eventsguide\/2025\/10\/hiroshima-architecture-exhibition-2025\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hiroshima Architecture Exhibition 2025<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Its scale was based on the traditional Japanese measuring system called Tsubo and was crafted with the sponsor and woodworker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.woodone.co.jp\/company\/english\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wood One Co<\/a> from solid Yoshino cypress timber and traditional Japanese carpentry techniques.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2023\/10\/24\/junya-ishigami-interview\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"191\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/serpentine-pavilion-junya-ishigami-2019_dezeen_2364_col_sq-191x191.jpg\" class=\"excludeLightbox wp-post-image\" alt=\"Japanese architect Junya Ishigami\" decoding=\"async\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\"  \/><\/p>\n<p> &#8220;I don&#8217;t want to make crazy buildings&#8221; says Junya Ishigami\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I believe architecture is not merely physical, it is a &#8216;way&#8217;,&#8221; said Horibe. &#8220;It is a single path stretching from the past to the future, and this project exists along that path,&#8221; he continued.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I see it as an important opportunity to consider what can be done to preserve the kinds of materials we are familiar with today, and the traditional hand-carving carpentry techniques that are disappearing before our eyes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2272928 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/tsuboya-yasushi-horie-hiroshima-architecture-exhibition-tatsuya-tabii_dezeen_2364_col_6-852x1279.jpg\" alt=\"Tsuboya at Hiroshima Architecture Exhibition 2025\" width=\"1574\" height=\"2364\"  \/>Architect Yasushi Horibe has also created a kiosk for the event. Photo by Tatsuya Tabii<\/p>\n<p>The third kiosk, designed by Nakayama, is located nearby in the city of Onomichi. It sits on the waterfront beside the mixed-use Onomichi U2 venue.<\/p>\n<p>Named Kiosk Through Which the Landscape Passes, the structure comprises two small seats sheltered by an arched, transparent canopy. The units are set on wheels, allowing them to be separated or combined to form a single shelter.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2272924 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/tsuboya-yasushi-horie-hiroshima-architecture-exhibition-tatsuya-tabii_dezeen_2364_col_2-852x1279.jpg\" alt=\"Tsuboya kiosk\" width=\"1574\" height=\"2364\"  \/>Tsuboya is a compact wooden hut. Photo by Tatsuya Tabii<\/p>\n<p>Kiosk Through Which the Landscape Passes was sponsored by automotive parts company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.molten.co.jp\/index_en.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Molten Corporation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While Ishigami&#8217;s kiosk functions as a visitor centre, the two by Nakayama and Horibe are intended to &#8220;serve as a &#8216;gateway to ideas&#8217; and a &#8216;forum for dialogue'&#8221; at the event, according to organisers.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2272915 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/1764135681_640_kiosk-through-which-the-landscape-passes-hideyuki-nakayama-hiroshima-architecture-exhibition-tatsuya.jpeg\" alt=\"Kiosk Through Which The Landscape Passes at Hiroshima Architecture Exhibition 2025\" width=\"1773\" height=\"2364\"  \/>It is formed of a pair of sheltered seats on wheels. Photo by Tatsuya Tabii<\/p>\n<p>Hiroshima Architecture Exhibition 2025 showcases the work of 23 architecture and art groups across eight exhibitions.
