With defence, space and renewable energy projects driving demand, and hospitality and retail competing for younger workers, both employers and candidates are turning to technology to stay ahead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 font-serif text-lg sm:text-lg\">\u201cIf you\u2019ve applied for a job in Adelaide recently, chances are your resume was read by an algorithm before a recruiter,\u201d says Yasmine Johnson, co-founder and director at EGM Partners, one of South Australia\u2019s leading executive search and recruitment specialists.<\/p>\n<p>From White Pages to search bars<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 font-serif text-lg sm:text-lg\">Johnson remember when sourcing candidates meant flicking through the White Pages and collecting business cards. \u201cBack in the day when I first started, it was the White Pages and the Rolodex of business cards,\u201d she says. \u201cNow, you can access people through LinkedIn or Google almost instantly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 font-serif text-lg sm:text-lg\">EGM Partners maps and pipelines talent nationally and internationally for specialised roles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 font-serif text-lg sm:text-lg\">\u201cWe focus on candidates who aren\u2019t actively looking for work,\u201d Johnson says. \u201cThe benefit is being able to build relationships with people who may not be on the job market but are the right fit for certain roles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 font-serif text-lg sm:text-lg\">Digital accessibility has transformed recruitment. \u201cYou can quickly do a search using keywords \u2013 for example, if I\u2019m looking for a finance manager within the aged care sector, I can immediately see who the main players are,\u201d Johnson explains.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 font-serif text-lg sm:text-lg\">\u201cIn the last nine years, we\u2019ve placed more than 4,000 people into employment in South Australia, and we continue to drive that. There\u2019s so much talent in South Australia, and there\u2019s a lot of talent in the eastern states and globally that is interested in and happy to work in Adelaide.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 font-serif text-lg sm:text-lg\">\u201cIt\u2019s exciting when you can get good people into the state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>AI and applicant tracking<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 font-serif text-lg sm:text-lg\">Artificial intelligence is increasingly part of the recruitment process. Job ad generators, resume sorters and interview prep tools are gaining traction, though most employers proceed cautiously.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 font-serif text-lg sm:text-lg\">\u201cThere are lots of businesses using AI and automation to be more effective,\u201d Johnson says. \u201cA bot can do a phone screen, a bot can do an interview. That is all good but you still need that human element.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 font-serif text-lg sm:text-lg\">Applicant tracking systems now scan resumes for keywords, schedule interviews and link to compliance checks like right-to-work verification. For candidates, that means tailoring applications is more important than ever.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-242143\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/custom-image-218.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\"  \/>Yasmine Johnson, co-founder and director at EGM Partners.Flexibility as a priority<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 font-serif text-lg sm:text-lg\">Flexibility is also shaping hiring. \u201cMore than a third of Australians work from home at least part of the time, and younger workers in particular expect hybrid arrangements as standard,\u201d Johnson says. \u201cEmployers who spell out remote options in job ads are seeing more applications \u2013 especially in competitive fields like IT and professional services.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 font-serif text-lg sm:text-lg\">Yet face-to-face interactions are making a comeback. \u201cDuring Covid, it was all video interviewing,\u201d Johnson says. \u201cBut now employers are trying to bring people back into the office. You can see, touch and feel much more in face-to-face interactions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Balancing tech and human judgement<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 font-serif text-lg sm:text-lg\">Johnson stresses that technology is a tool, not a replacement. \u201cAI and systems can help with scheduling, assessing candidates and administrative tasks,\u201d she says. \u201cBut the relationship building and human element are still critical. That\u2019s what makes recruitment work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 font-serif text-lg sm:text-lg\">South Australia\u2019s evolving recruitment landscape demonstrates how algorithms, AI and digital sourcing have transformed a once face-to-face process.
