\n\tIranian auteur Jafar Panahi<\/a> claimed dual honors at the 18th Asia Pacific Screen Awards<\/a>, with his Cannes Palme d\u2019Or winner \u201cIt Was Just an Accident<\/a>\u201d (Un simple accident) taking home best film and best director.<\/p>\n

\n\tJapanese filmmaker Fujimoto Akio\u2019s \u201cLost Land<\/a>\u201d (Har\u00e0 Watan) received the Jury Grand Prize for its portrait of displaced Rohingya children navigating uncertain futures. The co-production spanning Japan, France, Malaysia and Germany was produced by Kazutaka Watanabe.<\/p>\n

\n\tSingaporean filmmaker Tan Siyou and producer Fran Borgia won best youth film for \u201cAmoeba,\u201d while Korean director Kim Bo-sol\u2019s animation \u201cThe Square\u201d claimed best animated film honors.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the documentary categories, Sepideh Farsi\u2019s \u201cPut Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk\u201d won best documentary film for its first-hand perspective from within Gaza. Deming Chen\u2019s \u201cAlways,\u201d exploring boyhood and memory in rural China, received a special mention from the documentary jury.<\/p>\n

\n\tJapan\u2019s Chie Hayakawa earned best screenplay for \u201cRenoir,\u201d which also saw rising star Yui Suzuki win best new performer. Hong Kong actor Sean Lau took best performance for \u201cPapa,\u201d portraying a father navigating grief and love.<\/p>\n

\n\tIndonesian cinematographer Batara Goempar won for \u201cSamsara,\u201d with Gold Coast actor Juliet Widyasari Burnett accepting on his behalf. Kyrgyzstan filmmaker Aktan Arym Kubat received the Cultural Diversity Award for \u201cBlack Red Yellow.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIndia\u2019s Rohan Parashuram Kanawade earned the Young Cinema Award in partnership with Netpac for \u201cCactus Pears\u201d (Sabar Bonda), which previously won the top prize at Sundance.<\/p>\n

\n\tA new Forum Filmmaker Award, presented in partnership with The Post Lounge Group, went to Prabhath Gurung for \u201cSon of a Honey Hunter,\u201d recognizing significant creative growth during the 7th Asia Pacific Screen Forum.<\/p>\n

\n\tAustralian producer Greer Simpkin received the FIAPF Award for outstanding contribution to film in the Asia Pacific region.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe ceremony also announced four recipients of the 2025 MPA APSA Academy Film Fund grants. Hong Kong curator Kiki Fung chaired the jury alongside Ngo Thi Bich Hanh of Vietnam and Australia\u2019s Schuyler Weiss.<\/p>\n

\n\tGrant recipients included Academy Member Anocha Suwichakornpong for Thai project \u201cFiction,\u201d director Kareem Abeed for Syrian documentary \u201cWhere is My Father,\u201d Indonesian director Yosep Anggi Noen and producer Gita Fara for \u201cThe Sea Speaks His Name,\u201d and director Thien An Pham with Jeremy Chua for Vietnamese feature \u201cHeaven in a Wildflower.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAll nominees, nominations council and jury members join the APSA Academy, presided over by Australian screen legend Jack Thompson. The academy will total more than 1,725 regional filmmakers in 2025.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThis year, we continue to see a powerful surge of emerging filmmakers whose bold, authentic storytelling reflects one of the most diverse collections of perspectives APSA has ever showcased,\u201d said chair of the Asia Pacific Screen Awards Tracey Vieira.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Asia Pacific Screen Academy encompasses 78 countries and areas, representing 4.5 billion people and producing half the world\u2019s films. Partners include Screen Queensland, Screen Australia, City of Gold Coast, MPA and The Post Lounge Group.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe ceremony, held at The Langham Hotel on Australia\u2019s Gold Coast, celebrated filmmaking excellence from 24 countries and regions across the Asia Pacific. The awards ceremony was supported by major partner Jewel Gold Coast.<\/p>\n
