Garner Mansion is one of the few free-standing pre-Civil War mansions still surviving in New York City. It became the St. Austin&#8217;s School for Boys in the 1880s. In 1903, it was acquired by the Sisters of Charity and became the original building of St. Vincent&#8217;s Hospital.Staten Island Advance<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"OQKHML3ZPRCCFKS7GAUKVZ6RDA\">STATEN ISLAND, NY. \u2014 St. Vincent\u2019s Hospital, which was founded by the Sisters of Charity, opened on Thanksgiving Day in 1903 at the intersection of Bard and Castleton avenues in West Brighton.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"GVHCBTWTWRHUBHYE5RA6NID7OU\">The hospital now operates on the same campus as Richmond University Medical Center after being renamed in a 2006 sale.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"low\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"RUMC |Then and now\" class=\"article__image-content\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/JLHVTTZXTFBURFDQ4I4OZNOTWA.JPG\"  \/>St. Vincent&#8217;s Medical Center opened officially on Thanksgiving Day, 1903, one month after its auxiliary had formed.
