\n\tThe second edition of the JAFF Market<\/a> opened in Yogyakarta with a traditional Hanoman dance performance before market director Linda Gozali \u2013 who is also a producer with Magma Entertainment<\/a> \u2013 formally began the program, setting the tone for a year she described as a strategic phase in the platform\u2019s development.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s a baby \u2014 JAFF is 20 years old, and our market is only in its second edition,\u201d Gozali said, referring to the Jogja-Netpac Asian Film Festival<\/a>, the long-running Yogyakarta festival whose industry platform is the JAFF Market. \u201cBut we believe it is a reliable and structured, future-oriented industry platform.\u201d She announced a major increase in participation: \u201cThis year we have 116 exhibitors, 122 companies, and more than 1,400 accreditation badges\u2026 Last year it was only about 900 to 1,000.\u201d Encouraging attendees to move through the expanded venue, she said, \u201cOne thing I would like to remind everybody \u2014 you have to walk to every single corner of this venue. You cannot miss even a single thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGozali positioned the JAFF Market as a regional and global connector. \u201cJAFF Market exists as a strategic bridge connecting projects, talents, companies and investors from Indonesia to the regional and even global industry,\u201d she said. \u201cIdeas find direction, strategies find momentum, creative ambition meets real pathways in production, distribution and even beyond.\u201d The festival, now in its 20th year, presents its top honor, the Golden Hanoman Award, to the best Asian feature in competition.<\/p>\n

\n\tGozali then introduced Ahmad Mahendra, Director General of Cultural Development, Utilization and Fostering at the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, who delivered greetings from the Minister of Culture. Mahendra noted that JAFF Market provides essential visibility: \u201cJAFF Market is more of a transactional or pitching forum. This is where the ecosystem finds room to meet,\u201d he said, calling it \u201cthe only showcase we have to be more visible internationally.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMahendra detailed the ministry\u2019s initiatives over the past year: \u201cWe have facilitated 85 filmmakers to six international festivals\u2026 13 film festivals within Indonesia\u2026 27 Indonesian films entering nominations at international festivals\u2026 five films receiving international recognition.\u201d He added that four Indonesian filmmakers served as jurors at major global events and highlighted talent development efforts: \u201cMore than 1,200 talents have been produced\u2026 18 of them have received international recognition in Busan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Berlin and Rotterdam.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe praised Yogyakarta\u2019s cultural ecosystem and said, \u201cIndonesia owes JAFF and JAFF Market. This is our showcase to be more visible internationally.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSultan Baktiar Najamudin, Chair of the Regional Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia, followed with remarks framing JAFF Market within the cultural and economic fabric of Indonesia. He opened by acknowledging the recent disasters in Sumatra: \u201cThe voice of nature has become louder than humans\u2026 This is an ecological alarm for all of us.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe described JAFF Market as \u201ca reflection of the long journey of Indonesia\u2019s film ecosystem,\u201d saying, \u201cIdeas meet craft, craft becomes opportunity, and opportunity creates hope.\u201d Najamudin emphasized the industry\u2019s economic impact: \u201cIf the national film industry grows, regional economies will also advance.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCalling Indonesia \u201cthe greatest cinematic stage God has given us,\u201d he invoked landscapes \u201cfrom Sabang to Merauke\u2026 from the beaches of Mentawai to the jungles of Sumatra.\u201d Addressing young filmmakers directly, he said, \u201cThe world is waiting.\u201d<\/p>\n
