A new study may have some answers.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/40988902\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">recent meta-analysis<\/a> shows that doing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inc.com\/val-wright\/how-30-days-of-yoga-can-improve-your-productivity.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">high-intensity yoga for 30 minutes<\/a> twice a week could be the best exercise-related <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencealert.com\/one-form-of-exercise-improves-sleep-the-most-study-finds\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">cure for poor sleep<\/a>. The report said the second-most-helpful exercise is walking, followed by resistance exercise.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers at China\u2019s Harbin Sport University conducted the study, which was published on July 11 in Sleep and Biological Rhythms. After analyzing the data from 30 trials that involved 2,500 participants with sleep disturbances, they ranked which forms of exercise most helped with sleep. The study subjects were of all ages and came from over 12 countries.<\/p>\n<p>Why Yoga Helps Sleep<\/p>\n<p>It isn\u2019t yet clear why yoga can help people sleep more soundly, but there are some predictions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>An Inc.com Featured Presentation<\/p>\n<p>For one, yoga can help regulate breathing. Breath control can trigger the parasympathetic nervous system that is involved in rest and digestion, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.igi-global.com\/gateway\/chapter\/187467\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2018 study.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Other studies point to yoga\u2019s ability to regulate brainwave activity, which is also known to lead to deeper sleep.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Still, this study doesn\u2019t mean yoga will be everyone\u2019s solution for sleep troubles.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCaution should be exercised when interpreting findings from studies on sleep disturbances, given the limited number of studies included and the unique characteristics of the sleep disturbances population,\u201d said researchers at Harbin Sport University, according to ScienceAlert. \u201cFurther high-quality research is needed to confirm these findings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Researchers will need to continue analyzing sleep habits and exercise to understand which forms benefit different types of people, including men versus women and younger people versus older, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencenews.org\/article\/best-exercise-improve-sleep-yoga\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">said Arsenio P\u00e1ez<\/a>, a sleep researcher at Montreal\u2019s Concordia University.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome kinds of interventions may work well for someone who is in their 30s but be more difficult for someone who is in their 80s,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>For now, experts suggest working out in whichever form is preferable.
