The team behind Hollow Knight: Silksong<\/a> say they\u2019re not expecting to pick up the coveted Game Of The Year trophy at this year\u2019s Game Awards<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Game Awards 2025 take place later this month, with Hollow Knight: Silksong<\/a> up against Death Stranding 2: On the Beach<\/a>, Donkey Kong Bananza<\/a>, Hades 2<\/a>, , Clair Obscur: Expedition 33<\/a> and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2<\/a> for Game Of The Year. However the team behind the hit game don\u2019t fancy their chances of going home with the trophy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Speaking to Bloomberg<\/a>, Team Cherry co-founders Ari Gibson and William Pellen said they\u2019d probably be \u201ctoo busy\u201d to make it to the ceremony on December 11.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThis year I think we\u2019re safe,\u201d explained Gibson when asked about recording an acceptance speech for GOTY. \u201cI think Expedition 33 \u2014 it\u2019s exceptional and broadly palatable. Whereas we\u2019re on that knife\u2019s edge, where it appeals to some and infuriates others.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking about the \u201cgood\u201d reception to Silksong, Pellen said it was a \u201cpretty different release than Hollow Knight, obviously, because so many people were playing it at once. The sheer volume of it can be a little overwhelming,\u201d he continued. \u201cNot even in a bad way, but there\u2019s so much coming through at once. Whereas Hollow Knight was a slow burn.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in the interview, Team Cherry confirmed it was working on Hollow Knight: Silksong DLC. \u201cI don\u2019t really know what else people would necessarily want to hear other than what we\u2019re already saying. Yes, we\u2019re continuing to work on the game, we\u2019re pursuing the things that excite us,\u201d said Gibson.<\/p>\n

But it\u2019s still early days. \u201cWe might have some vague ideas, but we\u2019re not set. I\u2019m not trying to downplay it, because we\u2019re excited about what we\u2019re making. Maybe it\u2019s just that we don\u2019t want to overpromise some huge thing,\u201d he explained before admitting the studio wanted to make \u201cother games\u201d.<\/p>\n

Last week, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 creative director Guillaume Broche said<\/a> the hit game was never supposed to be as popular as it is. \u201cI think we all felt the same thing. It\u2019s going to be cool. It\u2019s not going to be big, it\u2019s going to be cool. And what\u2019s happening today\u2026 nobody really understands what\u2019s happening.\u201d<\/p>\n
