{"id":163237,"date":"2025-12-02T00:52:13","date_gmt":"2025-12-02T00:52:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/163237\/"},"modified":"2025-12-02T00:52:13","modified_gmt":"2025-12-02T00:52:13","slug":"trump-speaks-to-netanyahu-invites-him-to-visit-warns-israel-not-to-interfere-in-syria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/163237\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump speaks to Netanyahu, invites him to visit, warns Israel not to &#8216;interfere&#8217; in Syria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>US President Donald Trump warned Israel via social media on Monday against destabilizing Syria and its new leadership, shortly before holding a phone conversation with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is very important that Israel maintain a strong and true dialogue with Syria, and that nothing takes place that will interfere with Syria\u2019s evolution into a prosperous State,\u201d Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, days after a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/six-soldiers-hurt-in-gun-battle-as-idf-detains-terror-suspects-in-southern-syria\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">deadly operation by Israeli forces<\/a> in the south of the country.<\/p>\n<p>Trump said he was \u201cvery satisfied\u201d with Syria\u2019s current performance under former Islamist rebel President Ahmed al-Sharaa, who made a historic visit to the White House in November.<\/p>\n<p>The US president said Sharaa \u201cis working diligently to make sure good things happen, and that both Syria and Israel will have a long and prosperous relationship together.\u201d He added that the United States was \u201cdoing everything within our power to make sure the Government of Syria continues to do what was intended\u201d to rebuild the war-torn country.<\/p>\n<p>Good relations between Syria and Israel would add to his efforts for a wider Middle East peace following the fragile Gaza ceasefire in October, said Trump.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\tGet The Times of Israel&#8217;s Daily Edition<br \/>\n\t\t\tby email and never miss our top stories\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\tBy signing up, you agree to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/terms\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">terms<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Shortly after the social media post, Netanyahu\u2019s office said the prime minister held a phone call with Trump.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Israeli readout, the two leaders discussed \u201cthe importance of and commitment to dismantling Hamas\u2019s military capabilities and demilitarizing the Gaza Strip, and discussed the expansion of the peace accords.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\t<a href=\"https:\/\/static-cdn.toi-media.com\/www\/uploads\/2025\/09\/AP25272692326395-e1759692030285.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-3653293\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/AP25272692326395-e1759692030285-640x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"375\"\/><\/a><br \/>\n\t\tUS President Donald Trump speaks upon departing a news conference with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in foreground, in the State Dining Room of the White House, September 29, 2025, in Washington. (AP\/Evan Vucci)<\/p>\n<p>Trump also invited Netanyahu to visit the White House \u201cin the near future,\u201d the premier\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n<p>According to Channel 12 news, Netanyahu is likely to make the trip by the end of this month. The visit would be his fifth since Trump returned to the White House in January.<\/p>\n<p>The call came a day after Netanyahu formally <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/netanyahu-requests-presidential-pardon-in-corruption-trial-doesnt-admit-guilt\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">requested a pardon<\/a> from President Isaac Herzog in his corruption trial, without acknowledging guilt \u2014 a pardon Trump has personally backed, including in a public exhortation to Herzog in the Knesset in October and a subsequent letter.<\/p>\n<p>There was no direct mention of Syria in the Israeli readout of the phone call, and there was no immediate readout from Washington.<\/p>\n<p>The Syrian issue is expected to be a prime topic of discussion during Netanyahu\u2019s visit, Channel 12 reported. Trump has been pushing for a security pact between Israel and Syria since Sharaa\u2019s Islamist coalition overthrew longtime ruler Bashar al-Assad a year ago.<\/p>\n<p>But tensions have risen over hundreds of strikes by Israel on Syria. In the deadliest so far, Israeli forces reportedly killed 13 people on Friday in an operation in southern Syria, saying they targeted an Islamist group.<\/p>\n<p>Six Israeli soldiers were wounded in the gun battle. Israel said it set out to arrest two members of the al-Jama\u2019a al-Islamiyya (Islamic Group) terror organization, saying that intelligence information collected in recent weeks indicated that they were planning attacks on Israel.<\/p>\n<p>\t<a href=\"https:\/\/static-cdn.toi-media.com\/www\/uploads\/2025\/11\/ff97d0ed-c915-41b8-bef8-2b1a1c79ca67.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-3700090\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/ff97d0ed-c915-41b8-bef8-2b1a1c79ca67-640x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"375\"\/><\/a><br \/>\n\t\tTroops of the 55th Reserve Paratroopers Brigade detain a suspect in the southern Syrian village of Beit Jinn, early November 28, 2025. (Israel Defense Forces)<\/p>\n<p>Syria condemned the operation as a \u201cwar crime,\u201d saying that it denounced \u201cthe criminal aggression\u201d of the IDF and that such acts aim to \u201cignite the region\u201d in conflict.<\/p>\n<p>The IDF has been deployed to nine posts inside southern Syria for nearly a year, since the fall of the Assad regime in December 2024. They are mostly within a UN-patrolled buffer zone on the border between the countries. Two posts are on the Syrian side of Mount Hermon.<\/p>\n<p>Troops have been operating in areas up to around 15 kilometers (nine miles) inside Syria, aiming to capture weapons that Israel says could pose a threat to the country if they fall into the hands of \u201chostile forces.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Channel 12 news reported Monday that US officials repeatedly expressed frustrations to their Israeli counterparts over the weekend about the escalation in Syria in the wake of Friday\u2019s incident.<\/p>\n<p>A senior US official told the TV network that Syria \u201cdoesn\u2019t want problems with Israel.
