\n\tWhat are the likes of Fox Entertainment<\/a> Global, Fremantle<\/a>, Banijay<\/a>, A&E, and ITV Studios<\/a> looking for in terms of content? Top executives discussed that question at Content London<\/a> on Wednesday in a session entitled \u201cFundamentals: Show me the money \u2013 what content the majors are investing in and why.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe speakers were Fox Entertainment Global<\/a> president Prentiss Fraser, Jens Richter, CEO, commercial and international<\/a> at Fremantle, Ruth Berry, president global partnerships & Zoo 55 at ITV<\/a> Studios, Banijay Rights CEO Cathy Payne, and Patrick Vien, group managing director, international at A+E Global Media.<\/p>\n

\n\tProcedurals, game shows, and reboots of such franchises as Baywatch are in focus for Fremantle. \u201cWindowing is back big time,\u201d Richter said, arguing that the walled garden approach of the early streaming days was behind us. And except for Apple, all big players sell ads now. \u201cSo, everybody needs mainstream shows that can generate big audiences\u201d and feature them for a limited period, he concluded, meaning this is a time for \u201ccommercial, mainstream\u201d programming.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe are here shopping actively,\u201d Fraser said about her team\u2019s presence in London, mentioning one-hour procedurals, \u201creturnable dramas\u201d across genres, \u201cgreat formats,\u201d including in food, music, and dating, and \u201cshows that have a central character or characters that are really strong\u201d as being on Fox\u2019s \u201cextensive shopping list.\u201d She concluded: \u201cFox is very ambitious, and there is definitely an appetite to grow.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tPayne highlighted a Fear Factor reboot for Fox that is in the works via Banijay, featuring \u201csome pretty crazy people having a lot of fun.\u201d Emphasized the executive: \u201cThis is a new take, so it\u2019s not what you\u2019ve seen before.\u201d She noted that she and her team enjoy looking through the company\u2019s catalogue and identifying ideas for new iterations.<\/p>\n

\n\tVien mentioned recent reboots of such hit brands as Dance Moms and Duck Dynasty, highlighting that they are as big, in some cases even bigger, than A&E\u2019s network brands. He also touted an upcoming 20-episode History Channel World War II documentary series<\/a> hosted and narrated by Tom Hanks, calling it \u201cthe most immersive experience I have seen\u201d about the war. <\/p>\n

\n\tBerry on Wednesday lauded ITV Studios<\/a>\u2018 focus on starting with \u201cgreat talent,\u201d such as Harlan Coben hit series producer Nicola Shindler<\/a>. And she highlighted a key recent change in the TV business, saying that content exclusivity is not as important anymore, with players willing to partner on programming.<\/p>\n
