Ahead of the 6th edition of the Vatican’s Concert with the Poor, to be held on 6 December, Canadian singer and songwriter Michael Bubl\u00e9 shares how \u201cmusic is a gift from God\u201d and says he hopes to use his platform as an artist to share his faith.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I hear music, I hear the voice of God\u201d, Canadian singer and songwriter Michael Bubl\u00e9 shared at a press conference ahead of the 6th edition of the Vatican’s Concert with the Poor on 6 December.<\/p>\n

Established in 2015, the Concert with the Poor reserves 3,000 seats of the Paul VI Audience Hall specifically for the homeless, migrants, detainees with special permits, and those living in mental and social distress. Following the performance, dinner and \u201ccomfort items\u201d are distributed to those in need.<\/p>\n

Together with Msgr. Marco Frisina\u2014one of the organizers of the concert\u2014Serena Autieri, and the Nova Opera Orchestra, the Hall will be filled with music at the start of the Advent season.<\/p>\n

Bubl\u00e9 described the event\u2019s program as a way \u201cto pay tribute and to give service to the moment\u2026while at the same time celebrating the holiday. And Christmas is about celebrating the birth of Christ.\u201d<\/p>\n

Papal song requests <\/p>\n

A lifelong Catholic, Bubl\u00e9 recalled his meeting with Pope Leo XIV this morning as one of the greatest moments of his life. He asked friends at the Vatican if there were any specific songs Pope Leo would want to hear at the concert. One of the Holy Father\u2019s requests was Ave Maria\u2014a song that Bubl\u00e9 said he\u2019s only sung once.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen he asked, I was very nervous, I didn\u2019t want to let him or any of you down\u201d, the Canadian singer explained, \u201cBut with the amazing group behind me\u2014the choir and orchestra\u2014I realized, there\u2019s no [need to] fear.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ave Maria is not the only song on his setlist requested by the Pope. Bubl\u00e9 shared that many of the songs he will perform at the concert were specifically requested by Pope Leo.<\/p>\n

Music is a gift from God <\/p>\n

When asked how his faith has inspired his music, Bubl\u00e9 stressed that his beliefs influence everything he does and every decision he makes. Every artist has a brand and a platform, and he hopes that because of his faith, his brand is one of \u201ckindness, hope, and love.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a world full of wars, violence, and challenges, Bubl\u00e9 called faith a light in the midst of darkness. \u201cWhen you have faith, you have your own pilot light\u201d, he said. \u201cIf you have that faith and you have that light inside you, you can find your way.\u201d For Bubl\u00e9, his musical platform is the way he is able to share this light, his faith.<\/p>\n

\n Pope Leo XIV meets artists and organizers on the eve of the annual Christmas Vatican “Concert with the Poor” at its sixth edition.\n <\/p>\n

This is because music is more than just words and notes. \u201cMusic is a gift from God,\u201d the singer said, explaining how humbled he feels to have been chosen to perform at the concert. \u201cI get to spread the good Word, and the fact that it\u2019s a concert with people that could be suffering\u2026suffering brings you closer to God\u201d..<\/p>\n

Seeing God in the poor <\/p>\n

Speaking after the press conference with Vatican News\u2019 Fr. Felipe Herrera, Bubl\u00e9 said it is \u201can honor to serve\u201d by performing at the concert as his faith has always been an important part of his life. \u201cIt\u2019s a beautiful part of my life and there\u2019s something beautiful about knowing that you\u2019re a part of spreading [the faith].\u201d<\/p>\n

Moreover, in the music industry, having his faith at the center of his life has been a positive because he can be sure God has a plan. \u201cNo matter how difficult that is to understand, you always know there is a reason for why you\u2019re where you are\u201d, Bubl\u00e9 stressed.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on how the Concert with the Poor can be a teaching moment for his four children, Bubl\u00e9 described it as \u201canother example of how to be.\u201d He recounted how when the family sees a homeless person on the streets, he reminds them that they can see God in those in need.<\/p>\n

While this show is different than other performances, the Canadian singer said he would bond with the poor people in the audience as he does with any other publiv. \u201cMy joy is a connection, truly a spiritual connection with the audience. They\u2019re beautiful souls\u201d, he said.
