Italy\u2019s public broadcaster RAI announced on Saturday its support for Israel\u2019s participation in this year\u2019s Eurovision Song Contest, set to take place in Vienna, and confirmed that Italy will also compete in the event, Anadolu reports.<\/p>\n
The statement came after the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) General Assembly approved Israel\u2019s entry for the 70th edition of the contest. While several countries, including Ireland, the Netherlands, Spain and Slovenia, have since withdrawn in protest, RAI publicly endorsed the decision.<\/p>\n
\u201cItaly has always believed in and invested in the Eurovision Song Contest, making significant contributions to its development and international success, including financial support,\u201d RAI said in a written statement.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn recent years, our commitment has steadily increased, demonstrating the value we place on an event capable of bringing together different cultures in a shared celebration, the longest-running international music festival. RAI\u2019s dedication confirms Italy\u2019s desire to strengthen its role in promoting music, culture and entertainment on the global stage,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n
Slovenia, Spain, the Netherlands and Ireland have so far said they will not participate, citing Israel\u2019s war on Gaza, while Iceland said it will hold further discussions.<\/p>\n
