{"id":17123,"date":"2025-09-15T06:04:10","date_gmt":"2025-09-15T06:04:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/17123\/"},"modified":"2025-09-15T06:04:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-15T06:04:10","slug":"amazon-employing-ai-to-help-shoppers-comb-reviews","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/17123\/","title":{"rendered":"Amazon Employing AI to Help Shoppers Comb Reviews"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Amazon<\/a> earlier this year began rolling out artificial intelligence-voiced <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/news\/artificial-intelligence\/2025\/amazon-tests-audio-summaries-products-shopping\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">product descriptions<\/a> for select customers and products.<\/p>\n<p>Now, the company\u2019s \u201cHear the Highlights\u201d feature has extended to all users, CNBC <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/09\/14\/amazon-product-reviews-ai-customers-online-shopping.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">reported<\/a> Sunday (Sept. 14), arguing this could replace user-created reviews as the main source of product information.<\/p>\n<p>Among the advantages here, the report added, is that artificial intelligence (AI) won\u2019t suffer from cognitive overload from combing through thousands of reviews.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s important to recognize where AI is currently strong, such as in automation and pattern recognition, and where it still falls short, like in judgment-heavy tasks,\u201d said <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/ankuredkie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Ankur Edkie<\/a>, co-founder and CEO of <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/murf.ai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Murf AI<\/a>, which develops <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/artificial-intelligence-2\/2025\/voice-ai-funding-surges-8x-as-businesses-humanize-chatbots\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">AI voiceovers<\/a>. \u201cA key question is whether there\u2019s a way to factor in customer context as an input while generating these summaries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The value of AI, according to Edkie, is determining the right \u201cproblem-capability fit.\u201d Without that, he added, a sense of \u201cgimmickry\u201d is likely to filter through thanks to AI fatigue, which he says consumers are likely feeling by now.<\/p>\n<p>PYMNTS has contacted Amazon for comment but has not yet gotten a reply.<\/p>\n<p>The CNBC report also noted that the tendency of AI to focus on common themes can water down responses even as it summarizes them, taking out the detailed personal experiences found in human reviews.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAI might overlook unique insights or niche needs that don\u2019t align with the majority of responses,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/numainville\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Brian Numainville<\/a>, principal at consumer research firm <a href=\"https:\/\/feedbackgroup.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Feedback Group<\/a>. \u201cAdditionally, the ability to critically interpret reviews \u2014 like spotting biases or trusting certain reviewers \u2014 is diminished with AI summaries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/nauman-daw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Nauman Dawalatabad<\/a>, a research scientist at <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.zoom.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Zoom Communications<\/a>, offered his opinion that the technology is on its way to improving customer experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI take it as technology helping us to make informed decisions,\u201d he said, pointing to the mental fatigue and wasted time that can result from working through customer reviews.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, recent research by PYMNTS Intelligence shows that <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/study_posts\/getting-to-know-you-how-ai-is-shaping-the-future-of-shopping\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">AI shopping adoption<\/a> has begun to gain traction with younger and middle-aged consumers. The research found that 32% of all consumers said they have used or would use generative AI for shopping.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBridge millennials \u2014 older millennials straddling Gen X \u2014 lead the way, with 38% reporting AI use for shopping,\u201d PYMNTS wrote last month. \u201cZillennials are close behind at 36%, followed by millennials at 35%. Gen X is next, at 33%, while Gen Z comes in at 31%. Baby boomers show some traction as well, with 28% <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/artificial-intelligence-2\/2025\/consumers-warm-up-to-ai-shopping-tools-across-generations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">using gen AI<\/a> for shopping.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Amazon earlier this year began rolling out artificial intelligence-voiced product descriptions for select customers and products.
